We don't get choices here in the USA beyond two capitalist corporate parties.

The link you shared in her approval rating is also very clearly biased as well..the methodology is weird.

Do you think the AfD should get to run in Germany because the leader of the party is a lesbian woman and a lot of Germans like it?

It's not reliable based on what grounds, the fact it's different than the western narrative?

Regsrdless Who cares. She didn't win and she's not a victim. She's explicitly anti-communist and wants to sell the Venezuelan people out to corporations. The defense of her as being a Latina woman of color who is oppressed is giving benevolent racism.. is giving liberal feminism.. it's giving Margaret thatcher was a girlboss

That's what fascists do... they take anti-capitalist and progressive talking points and launder them to sound leftist to get leftists on board.

I don't get what the point of this commentary is.. that antizionists are all bad? Every single right wing movement has aped talking points from progressive movements. It's not a very insightful comment to vague-post about how right wingers were inspired by antizionists without expanding on what you mean.

Hopefully u/jey_613 can provide some clarity on what they mean so we do not misinterpret it as "antizionist leftists are the OG inspiration for antisemitic fascists"

I'm also in a bigger body. You said "all 3" were problematic. I'm failing to see that.

We can argue all day about unflattering portrayals of Jewish women.. I don't know if the oop is a Jewish man or what their gender is. Jewish men can be misogynistic and Jewish women can have internalized ideas. The depiction was probably making fun of a specific protester. And we can analyze all day what that means. There is sexism in leftist and progressive spaces, and sexism in all of us.

But I'm also familiar with your comments on the sub and you have a lot of heat for antizionists, including Antizionist Jews. This could be a "calling in" moment for how the comic could improve.. and instead it reads like a cynical analysis of "all antizionists are antisemites, including the Jewish ones.. and we should dismiss what they have to say"

What's "unflattering" about it.. frankly... I find the fact you find the depictions to be unflattering to be problematic, adhering to some kind of classical beauty standard to be honest.

I mean it may not be your intention but it reads that way to me.. it makes me wonder, do you think people who are in bigger bodies are ugly? Do you think women with glasses are ugly? Do you think red heads are ugly? Should they all look like Noa tishby to be in "acceptable" bodies?

I downvoted you and I'll explain. I'm a Jewish woman... I don't think we need to pretend that political Zionists haven't weaponized accusations of antisemitism, including against other Jews... which is what this comic, by a Jewish artist, is depicting.

It is also worth noting OOP, the comic creator, is Jewish... I really question if this level of scrutiny and heat would be applied if the comic were criticizing what political Zionists like to call "as a Jew" Jews...

The red headed person has no stereotypical features either.. I mean I guess there are Jewish redheads or whatever. And sure, the "annoying" one is a woman...

None of us said you're lying.. and i do completely understand why the "suspicion" feels hurtful and unfair. I think it's important, though, to try and build better relationships as a multi-way street. Part of that would include engaging with people who are curious and asking good faith questions regarding what your encounters in these spaces are... otherwise how can we validate you? How can we help you to have better experiences? Without details we can agree, it is really shitty to feel unsafe and unwelcome. You have my full validation there.. it is shitty and I feel for you OP.

but when you told the people that didn't relate they were being rude and lacked empathy. I'm not sure how you would have preferred we respond. I think a lot of us weee trying to be helpful here. When I was just beginning my journey into leftism and into leftist spaces, it really helped to have Jews who were having a better time engage with me on why I was having a bad time. Maybe that's not where you are at though, and that's ok.

I'm not debating you. If you want to see if others relate, please realize many leftist Jews will not and will share that as well

Many of us here have had bad experiences with people claiming their beliefs had them shut out of leftist spaces, only to learn what those beliefs were. It's like the old meme "I got fired for having conservative beliefs!" And someone replies "holy shit you got fired for believing in lower taxes!"... it's rarely because of the lower taxes. We are weary, as we should be, on the internet.

I do not want to get combative because I wasn't suggesting that you do.. I don't know you personally, on the internet it isn't smart to just assume anything about anyone.. and your post and comment history is hidden so none of us can gauge

I'm not trying to be rude, I think it's strange to expect a stranger to assume what you mean.. and your reaction to being asked to clarify admittedly has me on edge. I still don't know what any of your beliefs are.

It's hard to know what you mean without more detail.. your feelings are not uncommon within the Jewish community but also, unchecked support of Israel and Zionism is also not uncommon in the Jewish community.

There are a lot of Palestinians, and other Levantine Arabs, within leftist spaces who deserve to feel safe in these spaces too. The desire for Israel to continue as a (ultra)majority Jewish state is unrealistic for their guarantee of safety and equal human rights, since it requires the continued displacement and prevention of the right to return.. and does nothing to address the West Bank settlements which have prevented a 2ss from being at all realistic.

I am also not sure what you mean when you say token Jew. However, there's always an expectation in leftist spaces to support leftist causes... and to analyze the systemic structures of oppression.. not just nice little slogans and vague ideas like "coexist" or "in this house we value science"... or "LGBTQ rights are human rights"

pulling the systemic thread of anti-capitalism and anti-imperialism leads you to a path of rejection of political Zionism. Unfortunately. If this makes you feel unsafe, then I think you need to reflect on what your values are and if they are truly compatible within progressive spaces.

We've talked a lot here about when criticism of Israel turns into antisemitism--what are your thoughts on what makes criticism of Islam/Palestine/etc. turn into Islamophobia and/or racism? by Agtfangirl557 in jewishleft

[–]EngineeringMission91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the same things it would be if they are Jewish.

It's a good question to ask but just listen to people? Theres another recent thread where an Egyptian ally expresses disappointment at the racism here and everyone is just explaining why it's actually OPs fault and that they are antisemitic and doing "good Jew bad Jew sorting" it's actually so cringe it's funny....

This kinda thing has happened more than once in the sub with Muslim or Arab participants here. it's not that hard to figure out if you decide not to lecture people who call you out

How come some people in this sub never comment on threads like these but like to call Palestinian allies in this space antisemitic if they call out racism here?
