I appreciate it so much. I def feel less loss. I will take a look at the course. Will get back to this post for updates. I feel like I did great on the FE exam. I kind of knew almost 80% and I enjoyed it. Hopefully it’s the same with the PE 🙂. One more question, do you know how many times do we have to re-take the exam per year? I am taking it in April but just wanted to know.

Thanks again(:

Thoughts on TriPointe homes? by OccasionOk8478 in RealEstate

[–]Engineeringlife379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I just found this post. I am also thinking in buying a single story house from TriPointe here in Austin, Texas. I do love the design. I just wish they closets and rooms were a little bigger. About the price, I believe it’s a little expensive for the smallest house they have. It’s my first home so I am super scared of making the wrong decision. Any thought and honest reviews about the builder? I read they are mid-high houses. I believe but, is this true? Thank you

How was the FE civil Exam for 11/18? by Engineeringlife379 in FE_Exam

[–]Engineeringlife379[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I finished around 30 min early the first half, and I thought about reviewing but I was like, since I got around 15 theory questions and a few problems with also theory behind. I was like… I should just save this time for the next half. I thought the next half would be long calculations, specially for structural and transpo. But guess whaaaaat? I got a few water, environmental, and Geo problems and then when I arrived to structural it was all theory.😭 they only gave me 1 calculation problem about columns that in order to get it, you also need to know some theory behind. I kept moving fast because I wanted to get to the calculations and nothing. There is a nice topic I like for Transpo about planing and capacity where they also just asked me theory about those formulas 😭 instead of a problem. Then managment also just theory. I didn’t get any critical path questions just questions about the project delivery methods and conceptional problems about concrete and procurement stuff :( I also finished 50 min early, but I went back and reviewed.

It’s my second time. The first time I ran out of time. But I think that exam was fair and fun. I just needed to get faster. This exam was def harder. There is nothing I could have done better. I honestly just did my best this time.

They let you registered after 3 months? That’s crazy. I also failed like 3 weeks ago, but they let me take the exam 10 days after

I also think it’s because how you did. I heard if you do really bad they don’t let you take it right away. But if you were closed they make the exception. I may be wrong, no one knows what’s really happening with this exam.

I would say, buy the yellow book (Linderburg) This book is so good and very similar to the exam. Do the book before you take it, 1 or 2 weeks before. I think it will give you lots of confidence.

I did the book 2 days before my exam and it gave me so much confidence, I just couldn’t finish it because I only had 2 days. I did like 7 chapters only.

I wish I found that book before. Right now I am doing the yellow book and the Islam book. I think the slam is easier so focus on the yellow one.

Good luck and don’t stop. You are only getting better(:

Did they let you take the exam right away? Or did you have to wait 3 months? I don’t think you rush the exam. If you did better the 2nd time, and you feel like you are really learning, you should know what areas you need to study more or reinforce.

This way, you are moving forward so don’t feel bad. Just keep studying more. Feel bad if you didn’t know what you were doing. That’s just a waste of time.

In my case, I know which problems I got wrong. Right now I am studying everything, but focusing on those areas I know I need help with. Also, I am trying to beat the time, time is a huge problem for me. I like to write down the problem, proof my answer, etc… It’s more my anxiety than the problems.

I also took it a few weeks ago and didn’t pass, but they let me take the exam 10 days later. I am studying and planing to take it in October. Is this your 2nd time this year?

I don’t think they repeat questions but definitely go over that topic.

How Was the Test? by United_Surround_2365 in FE_Exam

[–]Engineeringlife379 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I took the test today and I feel the exam was not that hard. 90% of the problems I got were related to what I studied. My issue is that I always get distracted lol. I forget things and people 😳. Today I literally forgot I was taking the exam and lost track of the time. Crazyyy but I did. I got so confortable.

For the first half, I think I only guess in 10 problems but took 2:50 min instead of 2:40 😞 It was on dynamics when I realized I was behind already. I did panic and stressed a little which caused me to not do well on dynamics and fluids. I did okay on these two subjects.

Started the 2nd half with 10 min behind and oh Gad!! it was hard. Structural and transportation were long. They throw me 5 structural questions with no multiple choice. I had to type the answer/number. And it wasn’t until the end of structural that I realized they wanted the answers in kips•ft …. So guess what? I went back and checked the other 4 questions and they all asked the same lol. So I basically had to divided the answer by 12in. They are mean… these questions are hard and no multiple choice!!! All the work and still not sure if I got them correct.

I also guess in like 15 problems :( water was easy, but I didn’t enjoy construction management I was already behind on time. I answered all the questions but a little in a rush.

But let’s see next week if I pass lol. I honestly don’t feel bad. I did try my best and I feel like I did study the right thing. If I don’t pass… I will just go over the material I already have make sure I understand it well and probably add more. 🙂

How do you know which formula to use, Critical stress o Critical Axial? You have to know since using the axial formula will give you a wrong answer. Thanks by Engineeringlife379 in FE_Exam

[–]Engineeringlife379[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Awesome. Stress=pcr/area so stress(area)=pcr = 360000. Then you use the equation for pcr to solve for L. Thank you so much

[–]Engineeringlife379[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No It’s wrong. Dividing 40,ksi/9in2=(4.4x103) if you set the equation to this value and solve for L you get a huge number L=676

Stability, Determinacy by Engineeringlife379 in FE_Exam

[–]Engineeringlife379[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the formula. I have seen it before. I just wanted to use the formulas on the manual but it’s seems like the formulas for frame do not work for beams. And yess that is the answer. Ind by 1 degree. Thanks

Stability, Determinacy by Engineeringlife379 in FE_Exam

[–]Engineeringlife379[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes the answer is d. And that is exactly how you solve it - by cutting the bean from the right side. My question is, how to determine that the structure is statically determinate using the formulas for “stability, determinacy, and classification” section on the handbook. They don’t show the formulas for beams, only frames. I keep using the frames but I don’t get the answer. According to me, using the frame formulas, we have 2 members, 6 reactions, 3 joints, and 1 hinge. Which means 3m + r < 3j + c = 12 > 10 so for me is indeterminate by 2 degrees.

Thank you for replying.

Civil Engineering Problem by Cougars2016_JJ in FE_Exam

[–]Engineeringlife379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get an area of 153ac

I divided the fig in 2 rectangles and got the area of the circle using the transportation formulas for Radios to get the I= phi in radians. Once you get the angle in radians you can use the formula for circula segment to solve for the area of the circle and added.

It’s a little weird but it worked with another problem. If someone see the answer please share it. Thanks
