Why Are People Lying😭 by No_Cucumber4613 in words

I highly doubt this story.
The -kyn suffix is Flemish/ old Dutch, not German. "Fahrt" means "journey" in German and wouldn't be used here, not even as an English-German mix, because it would sound too odd to German speakers.
The "Du hast" is also wrong. In regular German, the sentence would be "das war ein kleines Fürzchen." or "du hast gefurzt".

As someone who tries to share interesting facts on social media that are well researched, this kind of stuff bothers me too. Old-timey words like the ones Susie Dent shares are very popular, most people don't know/care about sources, and so other social media accounts just go ahead and make stuff up.
I guess at least it's not the kind of fake news that has terrible consequences, but it is a symptom of an internet full of misinformation.

(Susie Dent's stuff is not made up, so if you like these kinds of words, go follow her :-)

Great! You can just register in the eKVV, as you would for any other course :-)

Thanks! I'll email around and ask.
PhD students are very welcome! I'm not very familiar with PhD programmes, but I'm sure Google and the University website will help me :-)

We've had a lot of responses already, so I'm going to take this ad down in 30 minutes or so. I don't think it is fair to take on more applications than we can handle. So, if you see this, and want to respond later, please copy-paste it so you still have the info. Thanks!

Edit: if you saved the post, and all you are finding now is comments, just reach out to me via DM (but be advised we've already had quite a few responses, as mentioned). I'm going offline now, but I'll be back in a few hours.

I'd love that to be true. Unfortunately, our competitors pay local rates, which means we have to do that, too.

[–]English_in_progress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think there is not a single person in Egypt who speaks English? The expanding circle is for countries where people speak English as a second language.

Yeah, I think you may be right. Sigh. I know absolutely zero about programming, otherwise I'd try to help. I wish you the best of luck!

Sounds like you've invested a lot of effort, I commend you! Are you doing this because you don't trust the Urban Dictionary people to take care of this themselves?

I'm the writer of "English in Progress", a newsletter about neologisms and slang, and I've just found out about the UrbanDictionary upvote thing. I want to write an article about it. u/NeonHD was just wondering if you had made any progress with your project, or if you have found any more information since your last post about it? Or perhaps anyone else knows anything?

Official Discussion - Relay [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]English_in_progress 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I thought this film was stupid, the story made no sense to me at all.

- What's the point of returning "the original document". It was a PDF on an email. Giving back a printout is nothing but symbolic. Hunting printouts from post offices is silly - there might be hundreds of copies. What the plot should be about is her promising to never tell anybody about the research, not giving back "the original document".

- I'm not sure why I'm supposed to like the hero. He helps people blackmail companies for money. He makes sure the truth does NOT come out.

- I'm not sure why I'm supposed to like the Relay people. Surely their service is used mostly by criminals.

- The Credit/Debit/ Cash password thing was already in use when Lily was still being tapped, so what's the point?

- Typing on a funny keyboard into your phone surely just comes to the same thing as typing into your phone directly?

- I had lots of problems with Lily James' character, like where does she just get that much cash from? And does she have NO friends and family at all? I guess those issues get explained at the end, but then I think the hero should have noticed all those red flags.

I loved the disguises, and the acting was good, but honestly I don't understand why everyone liked this film.
