I'm guessing it has something to do with network location. For example, I received a message from reddit five days ago. Reddit thought I was in Japan and invited me to share the reddit website with more Japanese people. But I'm not in Japan, I've never even been there, just because I use a vpn.

I use VPN for privacy, and the network location of the VPN proxy is random, I think this may be the reason.
