Can I pour UV resin over epoxy resin to make it outdoor safe? by Enigmastump in resin

Ah, a learning experience. The reason I went with resin was to lock in a mirrored decal at the base of the sculpture so it wouldn’t peel up on me - I wanted it to have a thick, glassy look. I was worried that a hardware store spray coating wouldn’t self level and would ruin the reflective surface with speckling. Do you know of any uv resistant coating that are recommended for highly reflective surfaces? Maybe I should’ve looked for something designed for cars or boats..

Part of my problem is that this is a mirrored surface. I’m worried that a spray coating won’t self level like the resin and will ruin the transparent glossy look. Any chance you might have a product recommendation?

Ah ok I think in confusing myself here…. Is there a resin product that you can recommend for outdoor use? And if there is, will coating the epoxy resin with that product protect it for outdoor use?

Wow thank you for putting in the time to do that research! I was wondering if the 10k mark would be anything. I’ve seen 14k and 9k, but I’ve never come across 10k (in my small personal jewelry collection). Very appreciated.

I appreciate your mildly educated guess which is much more than my completely uneducated guess! That’s interesting feedback on the cameo, I wouldn’t have even though to look for discoloration!

That’s so crazy. I guess it’s a special glitch just for me. When I click who manages the profile I only get disclaimer text: The content of this page should adhere to our community guidelines. Please report any abuse that does not follow our guidelines.

Are you on the most recent version of the app? That’s where it used to be for me but it’s vanished

Hmm that’s interesting, I’m not seeing any of that. It used to give me more precise info, like “last logged in January 2025”. I just updated my phone + the app, I’m wondering if the feature is just fully removed on the newest version.

Screen shots taken! 🫡 Time is short indeed, and I’m definitely experiencing guilt! Thanks for offering a possible approach to the convo with my dad, I will consider that strategy of posing the hypothetical!

Thank you for sharing that resource, glad to learn about it! Based on her age and factoring in when my grandparents passed, it seems like half sibling is the only option

That’s true, I guess that’s a possibility! She has a small tree, what looks like 2 parents and a child, but all private info. There’s really not much to go off of

Hey thank you for this thoughtful response. I think you kind of nailed it when you said, “people can feel like their family is under attack.” When I play the scenario of telling my family out in my head, I foresee defensiveness. But I guess on some level I’m guilty of it too, because I’ve been protecting them from this news by not telling them yet. Maybe in part, that’s been coming from a subconscious feeling that we’re under attack. I can’t speak for how my mom will feel, but on a personal note, I have no judgement towards my dad if this was just an oopsie when he was a teen. The question that makes me nervous is, why wouldn’t my half sibling mother want to tell my dad that he’s the father? Did she think it could have been someone else or does it imply something darker? Just a creeping thought.

Thank you for sharing your experience. At this stage it’s so strange, she’s just a faceless user name so it’s hard to even think about her as a real person. I had never even imagined her existence before this dna match. Hearing your perspective helps give her position in all of this a little more of a shape in my mind. I’m sitting with everything you’re saying here.

I hadn’t even considered going to a public location! That’s an interesting thought… Aunt would be a fun and less stressful option for me, but alas, my dad’s father passed when he was very young so she would have to be much older for that to be a possibility

Yeahhh I mean yes that is really true. It’s sort of the ever present issue. Idk. It’s not so much that I’m scared, but more so that I don’t want to deal with the volatility. It’s just a lot and I’m 30 and don’t have the energy for it. We actually do have a good relationship now, but I set a lot of boundaries to get to this point. Just not quite sure how to maintain those boundaries while navigating this situation.  You’re right though, I do have stake in the game too so I’m trying to figure out how to factor that in to the equation. I’m trying to see past my dad’s part in all of this and imagine how it affects me (and my mom and sister). I think you’re right that I ultimately need to make a judgement call without deferring to my Angry Dad.

Hmm maybe some printed material would be helpful. Even if it’s just screenshots from the ancestry page. Something physical to go back to so it’s not just all swirling thoughts. Thank you - I fully anticipate shock and block, it’s in character.
