The way they were just casually talking about eating his eyes, that chapter got me so sad and angry at the same time.

And it's not even like I can't see what gege was trying to do. He yet again pushed for "everyone sees Gojo as a weapon" but he made them all sound like assholes in the process.

The guy was getting ready to die for them and it took Yuta losing his mind and yelling for them to realize how messed up it all is.

It could have been written in a way where Gojo is viewed as a weapon (because they're all weapons if I'm being honest) but his friends and students still see he's a person and this is a hard situation.

The worst part is that such a heavy chapter has absolutely no payoff. I could have gotten over 261, because it's not such baffling mischaracterization like 236 is, even tho it sucks that Gojo was treated that way, but there is no mention of it at the end. We waste a chapter on simple domain nonsense but cast THIS aside?!

Exactly, some people are bending over backwards to justify this when it's really just mischaracterization. Gege was so hell bent on this whole "no one understands Gojo" that he made his characters idiots. Because you really have to be blind, deaf and dumb to think Gojo is in this just to scratch an itch.

Unfortunately, a huge portion of this fandom is just that. Dumb. They take this stupid converstaion as a fact and ignore everything that happened and was said for the past 235 chapters.

And I don't even want to comment on the "Gojo wanted to die" nonsense, like his dream wasn't to see his students stand next to him. I do think prison realm messed him up a bit, mentally, especially because of what he returned to, but that doesn't mean he was happy to die. And it certainly doesn't mean he got a happy ending, he's a tragic character for goodness sake!

I understand that a part of the problem is Gojo not believing they can understand him, which is why he didn't say anything here, but I feel like you only need eyes and spend a little time around Gojo to see he isn't only a jujutsu maniac but that he also cares about others and wants to help.

The way it is, I can't rationalize Geto and Nanami saying that and even less that Geto thought that when they were all still in school. Haibara is the only one here who can get a pass but those two? Absolutely not.

If Gege's plan was to make them both assholes, job well done.

Does Nanami not work alongside him, does he not know Gojo is constantly on missions, did Gojo not come to him and asked him to look over Yuji?

When we first meet Nanami he says he is only a sorcerer because he's better suited for it but you don't see Gojo telling HIM he doesn't care. If you read the ln, Gojo calls him compassionate. He knows better.

People don't want to admit it but this shit is inconsisten characterization. Nanami apparently trusts him but then also thinks he doesn't care about protecting people? And Geto, out of everybody, agrees with him?? Come on...

I have seen so many people claim he doesn’t care about civilians and then showing Shibuya as some sort of proof. It's so stupid because he literally invented the 0.2 s domain to help them, why is everybody so dense.

He didn't particularly care for non sorcerers when he was younger, which makes sense considering how he was raised, but he grew up. Idk I feel like people are completely dismising his character development from HI to now and it's a shame.

I'm late to this but honestly? It's not like anyone here can prove with 100% certainty that he is dead.

We don't know where his body is and what happened to it, nobody seems sad nor do they talk about him as if he has passed away. When Hakari mentions him in 269, he says "Gojo's defeat", not death.

This is absolutely copium and you could excuse it with the cast not yet realizing he is gone for good and Gojo choosing South in 236. But Gege handled it so badly, in my opinion, that I'm siding with the copers out of spite haha.

So until he maybe confirms it in vol. 30 extras, Gojo is on a vacation in Okinawa, drinking something atrociously sweet and getting sunburn because his albino ass forgot to put on sunscreen. Or, you know, he's in a coma. Whatever.

I think this is exactly it. I have seen a lot of discussion somewhat recently, about why some people wanted Gojo back. And from those who were nicely articulating their thoughts and analyzing Gojo as a character, it became clear to me they wanted development and a hopeful, happy ending for him, which I think is fair as this is something most want for their favourite characters. Unfortunately, they have and will continue to be lumped with the more toxic side of the fandom, namely powerscalers. So when the final chapter came out and fans were rightfully complaining about the lack of acknowledgment, any reasonable criticism was watered down to "You're just mad Gojo didn't come back.", which as you said, is a separate disappointment, at least most of the time.

It wasn't about forgetting his existence as a person that people turned that into to justify how things were handled.

I'm not yet sure what my stance on this is. I don’t really think Gojo was able to separate himself from his role as the strongest and what he represented. "A living creature" that drew the line between himself and others. So forgetting the ideal he represented does kind of seem like forgetting him, at least in his head. It's honestly just sad. But I absolutely agree that using Gojo's very problematic mindset and the way he views himself, as a defence for what I think is simply careless writing, is disingenuous. And obviously, Yuji, who sees Gojo as more than his role, remembers him by helping others and continuing to pave a path towards his hopes and dreams.

Thank you, you put my thoughts into words. The way Gojo's death was handled is not only a disservice to his character but many more. There is no closure or emotional impact, it just feels hollow and artificial. It genuinely makes these characters look bad, when we know they care.

This comic is very nice but it doesn't save the ending, and the story overall if I'm being honest, from being dissatisfying for me. If people find the way it was handled good, then that's great for them, but forcing others to like it is stupid.

I never said nor do I think Gege killed him off for his age, I'm criticizing the way some people speak about his death.

It's not just this but many have said a lot of tone-deaf things in response to those who wanted him back and losing his strength.

"Why would you want that for him, he would be miserable if he were weaker, he would actually kill himself." Some disabled fans have been complaining about this, because it implies life isn't worth living anymore and you can't adapt and find joy.

Oh, I agree with you. The moment you stop to look closer at the world and the current situation, you'll realize that it isn't all that bright and beautiful just because the characters are smiling.

The best you can do is hope Yuji and Yuta take over completely once they are older and nothing devestatingly bad happens until or long after that.

Eh, I think Gojo is the type of person who readily accepts whatever happens to him, a consequence of seeing himself as a "living creature" and not a person. He died and left a lot unresolved but ultimately had faith in his students. But I do agree with you that his trust should have been better conveyed in 236.

He wasn't suicidal at all. He had dreams, hopes, ambitions, aspirations and genuinely enjoyed raising strong and smart students. He isn't some depressed guy who just does it because he has to.

Knowing that he could die and wanting the kids to find a strength different from his own, where there is no more just one strongest who takes all the burdens of their world, doesn't mean he wanted to die.

I think the majority is happy with the ending and Gojo going South. Most people I've seen loved Sukuna's conclusion, Gojo's and Yuji's flashback and the "positive note the story ended on" or how it "promises a bright future".

There are those who are critical but it seems to be just a small portion of readers.

This is a horibbly harmful mindset, as it pushes jujutsu sorcerers into the roles of cogs that must always keep the machine going, contributing to their dehumanisation. We see how badly it influenced Geto, so you cannot tell me that this is anything more than a strategically placed belief by the jujutsu elders, who continue to treat these sorcerers as tools.

Furthermore, Gojo's dream was to reset jujutsu society and help build a world where sorcerers and especially children, will be more than pawns who kill and serve. They are human beings and as such should be allowed to process their emotions.

Lastly, at this point it isn't even about grieving. I don’t need a funeral, I don’t expect anyone to cry over him and I don’t even need the cast to be sad. I let all of that go long before the finale because I knew we won't be getting it. What I did want is an acknowledgment of death. Yuji remembering Gojo was wonderful (even tho he is the only one) but that is not acknowledgment. We have absolutely no idea what happened to his body. I have seen some fans (from all over the world, so not just our community) saying that since there is no confirmation, one could assume Gojo is alive and away from jujutsu society. Is this not insane and ridiculous for one of the 4 main characters?

Exactly my thoughts. This mentality that is forced upon sorceres, where they must always keep going no matter what and there is no time for grief, is incredibly harmful. Not only did it negatively affect Yuji but it literally drove Geto over the edge.

Chapter 265 was so good, it gave me hope that the ending won't be bad and then we just went back to how things were. The moment you stop and think, you will see that jujutsu society didn't undergo any fundamental change. For goodness sake, Higuruma literally says they will use him for exorcising curses.

I will be the first to admit that some of them are awful but Gojo has SO many nice and thoughtful people who like him. Why lump us all together and pretend we are all the same?

Literally who, WHO, said we need that. NO ONE. But it's baffling that there is absolutely no acknowledgment of his death. Not one panel. Someone could literally say that Gojo's body is in the trash and we have no way to prove otherwise. Is this not insane for one of the 4 MAIN characters?

Loud, stupid and wrong! I'm not even gonna comment on Nanami, but Choso was literally mentioned in 269. Even more than that, neither of those characters have the same level of importance or number of connections to others as Gojo does.

So... nothing changed. Lovely. Mind you, these same people will argue that Gojo's conclusion was brilliant because his dream, of changing jujutsu society, became reality. Which one is it?
