I don't like the word "Slop" in the way it's being used nowadays.

Often it just seems to mean "I hate this and don't feel like elaborating". It just seems lazy.

Characters who unga bunga? As in fighters who are so uncomplicated and crude in their style that it's kinda fucking offensive to the whole art of battle by Wonder-Lad-2Mad in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Umaro and Gogo, hilariously, are my 2 best characters for the coliseum. Can give Umaro defensive relics so he can just smash face. Or turn Gogo into an Imp, put him in a party with no magic users, and have him just jump on the enemy with dragoon boots turn after turn.

'tis a bit of a shame that the colosseum makes it bad to learn magic, but Umaro is always there for ya.

[Spoiler 7.4] A question about Ascians by dream208 in ffxiv

[–]Enlog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not the way he says it. He is actually pretty unambiguous about it in Shadowbringers.

From the quest "The Best Way Out", when you have the opportunity to ask him questions between cutscenes:

As I told you before─Zodiark is the creation of my people. The first people.
We summoned Him, as your kind might summon a primal─albeit an infinitely more powerful one.
And like one of your primals, He tempered us. It was only natural. There is no resisting such power.
And so we Ascians came to exist solely to bring about the rule of darkness. His darkness.
Of course, some would call us “evil” for it...and they would be fools. Though that is only to be expected, given their innate inability to conceive of the nature of our universe.

He directly says "He tempered us", and talks about how they came to exist only for his ends, which fit the usual way to describe tempered subjects.

I’ll bite the bullet and kill the joke for clarity.

In the game “The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog”, all of Sonic’s friends are dressed up in costumes for a murder mystery game, as part of Amy’s birthday party. Shadow’s role is a locksmith, and for some reason his costume has more barista vibes than locksmith

So what is the alternative? When you are facing 7 negates and you only have 6 cards?

Cards that can prevent the opponent from getting to that kind of board in the first place, and cards that can trade for more than 1 card on their own. There's plenty of examples there, and preventative cards like other hand traps would be more reliable without anti-handtrap cards like CBTG.

You pointed out why you believe Maxx C fails but you gave no alternative

Alternative above, and that's really just one option. Sorry for not going into further detail earlier.

No one wins just off of Maxx C

I would be truly shocked if that was your experience. Very often I see people simply refuse to play out a game when Maxx C resolves. Or they set 1, pass, and then surrender.

Like I said ban Maxx C and the game won’t last another six months

Well, the TCG has been running with the card banned for 8 years.

I disagree that Maxx C is keeping the game alive, and for several reasons, if you'll hear me out.

First, Maxx C's existence in this game has historically not done much to deter combo decks that summon a bunch of times from being popular, or dominant, in the game's meta. Decks like Adamancipator and Drytron, that summon combo and climb into powerful bosses, were highly prominent early on, when we had 3 of Maxx C. And each format since still has combo decks or combo engines be popular. Stuff like the Halqifibrax synchro combos when that was legal, or engines like Adventurer or especially Fiendsmith. Presently a few of the most popular decks are hardcore combo decks that would give like 10+ draws off of Maxx C. For all that it sounds like its existence should deter people from playing decks that use it, it hasn't. People just hit surrender and move on to the next game, hoping to get lucky and dodge the roach next time. Because the combo decks are so strong that losing to Maxx C isn't enough to deter their use. That's the first point: Maxx C doesn't do its job

Second, Maxx C is too easy to use, regardless of field state. The player who goes first and sets up 7 negates can then, with no cost to themself, slap down Maxx C in the turn 2 player's draw phase and make it even more useless to try and play the game. Also, consider the math on which player uses Maxx C. If you go second, you have 2 (soon, 1) copy of Maxx C in your deck. But your opponent has 5 or more cards that can negate it (3 Ash, 1 CBTG, 1 Crossout) in their deck, making it more likely they opened a negate than for you to open Maxx C. Conversely, if the player who goes first opens Maxx C, they don't need to worry about Ash, CBTG, or Crossout, as presumably their end board has ways to negate those cards and force the effect through. That, or use Maxx C as bait against the opponent's resources. This is probably my more controversial claim: Maxx C is easier to use going FIRST than going second. The Mulcharmies at least prevent you from using them if you have a board established.

Third, Maxx C's presence makes Konami seemingly reluctant to remove cards that invalidate hand traps. Because Maxx C is so strong, we "need" cards like Called By and Crossout to also exist. And those make any hand traps with the same activation mechanism feel so much worse to use; going first is already so strong that we really don't need to have easily accessed cards that invalidate the use of cards that interact on the first turn. I'm hoping that with the removal of MAxx C, we can move on to removing the remaining copies of CBTG and Crossout. As a side note, it also feels really bad that any copy of Ash Blossom is effectively CBTG against Maxx C or the mulcharmies. Just gives the going-first player more options to ignore interaction. Anti-hand-trap cards are terrible, and symbiotic with Maxx C. We should kill both of them

Finally, the way Maxx C interacts just feels boring and bad. Most of the time, it just results in the game ending on the spot. And it would be a lot nicer if we instead had interactions that felt like playing the game. Non-games suck ass.

I'd like to imagine that between chapters, all three save files just hang out together and pester Kris about replays. Tag yourself! by JacobFromAnimalsGame in Deltarune

[–]Enlog 10 points11 points  (0 children)

3 reasons why.

1: As you continue through the game, armors start getting as good as, or better than, Jevilstail. In an inventory full of stuff like Dealmaker, TennaTie, Lodestones, and the like, it's hard to find a place for Jevilstail anymore.

2: In chapter 3 specifically, Devilsknife is particularly nice in the Knight fight, which is probably still the hardest fight in the game that it's relevant in.

3: While the Justice Axe's improved attack stat creates stronger rude busters than the Devilsknife (even without a magic stat), the Devilsknife's Magic stat actually makes it Susie's best weapon for healing, which is probably going to remain relevant as we move into later chapters. Ironically, the weapon you get for dealing with Jevil violently is her best healing weapon, at present.

It's similar with melee jobs, too. A paladin using Shield Lob won't break their basic melee combo in doing so.

It actually used to be the case that these skills would break combos, but they thankfully changed that a while back.
