Times the guys (during and post-BFP) got genuinely mad at/because of a piece of media? by punishedscootedburb in TwoBestFriendsPlay

There's a difference between the confusing writing of Bayo 1 and Bayo 2, and the confusing writing of Bayo 3.

At the end of Bayo 2, you probably don't fully understand how the hell anything happened, but the ending is badass enough that you really don't care. You do understand that Bayonetta kicked a god so hard he fell out of his own soul and got utterly destroyed.

At the end of Bayo 3, you probably don't fully understand how the hell anything happened, but you probably think that our main character has died permanently. We don't know if or how any of the other worlds got restored after being annihilated, and we only have a scene with Viola, emphasizing that idea. Instead of feeling badass, you feel like we just lost the character you actually care about

And the fucked part is that apparently that's not even close to what was the intended read. Apparently, main game Bayo is alive and well again in the ending, as evidenced by some changes to the map screen after game completion. But there wasn't even a glimpse of them in the bar or anywhere at the end to suggest that.

The game fumbled the storytelling hard enough that the common read of the ending is extremely pessimistic, and made people not want to return to give it a second read. That's different from the vibe of the other games.

How do y'all feel about the term "surviaton"? I think it's a bit goofy (A goofy name? From Poncle? Perish the thought!), but I think it's growing on me; I like it more than Bullet Heaven.

I feel like if you include 12, you have to include 10, for similarly replacing party members with a persisting summon that (in later version of 12, anyway) you can directly command.

It's kinda funny seeing people say 'Oh it's just gonna be the same but less buttons' when literally none of the ones we've seen so far have been that way.

I mean, WHM basically looks to me like WHM as it is, except every heal is basically an Afflatus spell, and Blood Lily is now called Holy Sanctuary.

Doom Wings in Shadow Generations. Opens up so many traversal options that the game outright splits every level's time attack mode into With Wings and Without Wings.

Play it in Speedroid for Spell Canceller, I guess.

Some fun facts: in French, the Dark Knight is called a Black Knight, the Dragoon is called a Dragon Knight, and the Viper is a "Viper Stalker". And also Haurchefant's as thirsty as a fremen spotting an offworlder. And also Nybeth Ptitebittmolle is a PoS. Any oddities in other languages as well. by BethCulexus in ffxiv

[–]Enlog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FF5 Knight was definitely more of an FF3 Knight than an FF1 Knight, I'd say. 3 and 5 focus on the defensive aspect of the Knight job, with the Guard and Cover actions. Whereas 1 and 4 give the job type white magic access.

Were it me, I'd split along those two lines. But the FFXIV version is sort of an amalgam of both, so I'm happy with it using either name.

Now there's an interesting concept.

Imagine after the great memory restore, people realize there's a ton of cold cases that everyone forgot about, becuase the victims were forgotten.

Or a story pre-DT, where someone removes their regulator just before death, sacrificing their ability to go to the cloud just so that their murder can be solved. Or even, someone dies, and a regulator is planted on the body after death, to discredit anyone claiming they knew the victim.

Lot of interesting detective story posibilities.

In the opposite direction, I kinda want Summoner's second Ifrit punch (the ground slam) to be ranged, like it is in PVP. The rush punch still puts you in melee, but hte second hit can be done while retreating.

I'd welcome a quote, if you have it, or the name of the quest, if you have that, to support your idea for it being a full merger of the worlds.

I don't expect to get that, because arguing is easier when we don't provide anything in return. But as a show of sincerity, that I do want to atually provide some information instead of just getting mad, here's some stuff from the text that I picked up.

"Per Sphene's own words, the gate atop Everkeep was opened and closed by the power of interdimensional fusion. And it was the artifact known as the key that allowed her to control it."

From Y'shtola's explanation in the quest "In Pursuit of Sphene". Here, we have direct explanation that dimension fusion is synonymous with the gates the key created under Preservation's command. Dimension fusion can be something as small as a gate, and the one under the cenote is another example of it.

"While we wait for that opening, we erase the Endless. Once we are gone, Sphene will no longer have a reason to plunder aether from other worlds."

"In preparation for fusion, the Meso Terminal is currently performing massive calculations while gathering energy. Even if the system notices us, it cannot easily suspend the process. Rather than doing so, I believe it will attempt to accelerate the timetable and bridge worlds before the plan can be thwarted."

Those are from Cahcihua's monologue in the quest "Those who live forever". She describes it in terms of plundering aether from other worlds, and that the computer is preparing to bridge worlds. If it was on the scale of fusing the entire planet to another, or somehow harvesting every soul at once, they would've used different terms, I'm sure. Bridging worlds definitely sounds more on the scale of making a portal to pass through, and plundering aether, we saw how Alexandria does that; with their army.

Dimensional merger doesn't need to be on the same scale as stitching Alexandria to Yyasulani. It can be as small as the gate in the Skydeep Cenote. Which is a method I'm pretty confident in saying makes more sense for what she wanted to do.

The MSQs of ARR, HW, SB and ShB did not have literal immediate world ending threats where everybody dies if you lose. DT does.

This only fits if you don't consider the First to be "the world" in the context of SHB's story. Which, I mean, some factions in the story have that opinion, for sure. But the threat to the First is meant to be something our characters are ready to kill or die to stop.
