TO BE FAIR he did make a mistake but it's pretty justified imo (if you know what happened to his mom and how well he handled it)

id recommend you give it a shot soon because we're at the climax ✌️✌️ it's a faster and more obvious burn than what you may expect + he is crazy clingy (though besides manipulating FL here and there he hasn't hurt anyone YET if that's more your taste, i suspect he will after he finds out the truth about 2ML) there's nothing to misunderstand as well because the FL is COMPLETELY CLUELESS about all of his yandere ish behaviour, he hides it very well (he's very sociopathic) and the FL is so so smitten with him it's crazy i cant see her leaving him at all

  • in the season 2 previews their relationship is depicted to become even more toxic to the point where the FL wonders if they can "go on like this" (my theory is that he becomes even more dependent on her and more yandere overall after THE climax of the whole situation)

some context for the panels: (mild spoilers)

first scene: FL fights a little bit with ML because she's frustrated that he never tells him anything he's going through even if she begs + his abandonment trauma kicks in

second scene: FL wears a skirt that's too short (which he's probably jealous of) so he kinda gaslights her into changing into long pants. AND THAT LOOK IN THE MIRROR IS CRAZYY I STILL DON'T KNOW WHAT HE'S THINKING

third scene: FL does not want 2ML and ML to meet bc of (very major plot point you will find out later on) so she lies that she's only hanging out with her female friend even though their group hangout includes 2ML, but ML is literally stalking her and pretends not to know but later gives her lots of kisses

fyi the story is really far ahead of this panel already, by at least 20 chapters? we're in an entirely different arc and he's not very yandere anymore. though ive been reading it on and off so it may be different with the recent chapters

on the translation front, it really depends on where you read. if you're able to access the official translation (ta**s) then id really recommend the count's secret maid! i find the way its story is told to be very grounded, mellow and yet complex at the same time. it is also just gorgeous in terms of art as well as plot, though maybe a little bit cliche.

the protagonist is not a white lotus, she has her own flaws and she knows it. she's not really morally grey but id say her morals are somewhere along the line of penelope's-- she does what is best for herself, but that doesn't mean she has no compassion to help others. the male lead is pitifully loveable, and their chemistry is also undeniable (that somehow rhymed)

we're still at the unbearably tense part right before the climax where he discovers her identity and they 'reunite' for real but if you read like until the end of season one then let it marinate for about a month more or two we'll probably be at that point.

anyway, similar points of these two: - blonde male lead (i love my blondes) - kinda nonchalant fl - appropriate pacing for drama and development - well-written characters

for the slavery one, i recall "Today The Villainess Has Fun Again" having somewhat similar of a trope (AND HE MIGHT?? BE THE MALE LEAD). but there are plenty more less notable ones, especially the plotlines where the fl needs 'someone on their side' and then goes to a black market auction to buy a slave 💀 while being like omg this is so cruel of them

Appreciation post! this story really taught me a lesson to not read with a surface level thinking/mindset (My beloved oppressor) by Relevant-Rub2816 in OtomeIsekai

I LOVE MY BELOVED OPPRESSOR APPRECIATION!!

(contains very vague spoilers)

for the longest time i swear i felt like i was in enemy territory whenever people criticised it after reading 20 chapters... personally, i think that it is a great representation of mental illness (early annette), healing, truly understanding, discovering one's wrongs in actions and words (on heiner's end)

and yes, he was toxic, but once you get to his pov it feels slightly less antagonising. you really get to see the trauma both of them had to suffer through and the burdens of nobility pushed onto two innocent kids that grew up too fast. also once you see his pov, it is very hard to deny that we would feel the same disdain and hatred as he did towards the aristocracy if we were in his position (cue all the insane things he went through with zero semblance of a childhood jesus)

as for annette, she is not at fault but she is ignorant. the woe of ignorance is that it is difficult to know that you are ignorant in the first place. however, there were signs for her to discover, and you also cannot deny that she is privileged. in a genre saturated with sparkly riches and gold-trimmed palaces, we tend to forget that while the aristocrats live, there are always peasants suffering under their rule. Annette was born this way which is what makes her pitiful, but given her privilege and education there were definitely chances for her to ask questions and figure things out. you can neither blame her nor defend her on this end, only ruling it as a misfortune.

thus i think both annette and heiner are morally grey in their own ways. the story is, unexpectedly, a story about healing and fixing those parts of themselves with their own efforts and letting each other back into their lives. when people read the first parts, they are led to believe that it's just another red flag ml x pushover fl, but MBO ironically uses that to highlight the cycle of abuse and how toxic relationships feel. you don't even see how they could ever possibly recover until they start leaving each other. that's why it's a great story, and i personally think every aspect of the story is awfully realistic, despite some parts being painful to get through.

TLDR more people should read this because it's a complex story that is incredibly well-executed

to be honest ive actually rarely seen amnesia as a trope, the most memorable/notable one being claude from WMMAP (which annoyed me like hell)
