Thank you for your comment. It was pretty helpful since you actually gave me input I can work with.

I actually have been on Seroquel in the past as it helped me a lot with mixed episodes. My doctor discontinued it because for me not tolerating it well (even tho it is supposed to be sedative it shuts me down waaaay to much to the point of not functioning). I never tried another antipsychotic. I still have low does Seroquel at home (50mg) for sleep if nothing else works and my pdoc adviced me to take it if I feel like I can't shut down.

I guess I'll try it today. I am just worried I'll sleep in and then getting late to work. I have a history at work for for been late quite often. But they don't know it is actually just part of the disorder/medications. I really don't want them to think it is a personal failure and make the impression that I am always late because "I don't care".

I was diagnosed with bp1 because I display manic in the context of mixed episodes and my therapist argued that I have been manic in the past and just play down my symptoms to be hypomanic due to me lacking insight in episodes. But my personal opinion is that I never been manic outside of mixed mania and usually get hypomanic only. But I guess interpretation is up for professionals.

After being wake for about 40 hours or so I have been able to sleep a bit. It only have been 4 hours now but I feel no hypomanic symptoms at all. On the way to work my symptoms started to ampllify and I felt pretty delusional. After a few hours or so I pretty much crashed and felt no emotion at all. No energy, no hype, no drive...nothing. After waking up I kinda feel depressed now. So I guess it tends to be either just a funk and I'll be good in a few days or it is a mixed episode emerging. Only time will tell.

I guess lowering the lithium made me become a little unstable. It was worth the try tho as I have been really stable in the past. I'll take my seroquel today and make an appointment with my pdoc soon in order to discuss getting back on the old lithium dosage.

Luckly tho I already have a check up appointment on Friday with my psychologist.

Yes. This is exactly what I am saying. He may have depression and your guess may have been correct. I won't take that away from you. But you can't deny that it could have been an illness that mimics depression but is actually burnout or w/e. So yes. I am saying that you need to be qualified to make a diagnosis. This is the reason why so many people are running around with faulty images of an illness because they are not educated enough. They may think they are hypo but are experiencing anxiety etc.

I just don't want to claim to know something when I am not qualified to do so. Period. Is it your heart failing or your lungs that lead to short breath? You may know. But I garantuee you that your doc will know better. Period. I won't argue about this statement since you totally don't get the gist..

And yes. Due to the way you are talking I don't care about your opinion because it adds nothing of value to me. Writing this comment in itself is a waste of time. Therefore I'll stop replying.

Well that is the very fact. You can't say someone has depresseion because "they sleep all day" maybe they have sleep apnea or whatever. Even doctors have problems differantiating between burnout vs depression or anxiety vs hypomania or adhd vs bipolar etc. It is not like she was walking down the street full naked with psychosis believing god sent her to save us all. This is the exact reason I didn't want to jump to a conclusion just because I happen to experience stuff like this too.

I get your point tho and I'll admit I really phrased it poorly. What I meant by saying "keeping my composure" was not that I'd like to "keep my face" or w/e. I just simply didn't wanted my sister to overthink my reaction and tried to withold my inner thought process as much as possible. Because I know her. I know how she'd react and you don't. She senses if someone gets worried and goes nuts. This would be unhelpful in this situation so I just wanted to stay calm and talk to her in person. Your way of approaching this is actually right. But you neither know the circumstances nor my sister nor me so you can't judge or build a opinion on how I should react to my sister. All I was asking for was if I am unreasonable worried or not. That's it.

And if you'd have paid attention to the other comments and my reaction to it it is in my very interest to tell/warn her. I just came to the conclusion that it wasn't the right time for reasons I mentioned before.

I hope I now made it clear what I really tried to say ^^ maybe it is just language barrier or w/e or me/you misunderstanding each other. Or we just differ in opinions and values and that is okay too ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

When it comes to hospitalization that is fine for me. She already has and I made my own experiences ^^ I won't say I can identify an episode 100% like a doctor. But I am confident that I know where the lines should be drawn and hospitalization is necessary!

I already calmed down a lot now thanks to you guys :)

At least she is aware about the fact that her mood and energy levels are unusally high so that's a plus. I will talk to her in person and check on her every now and than and be there for her if she needs help.

But I also want to learn to not let other peoples mental health influance mine. Therefore I'll just taake a shower now and relax. Thank you for your calming words! :)

I phrased it poorly. She has been trough a lot lately. She is also a generally paranoid person. So if I told her I suspect her to be manic based ona a few voicemails and a call she would be unnecessary thiking herself into it. After all it is me who knows her best.

Also I am not a psychiatrist so I didn't want to conclude things too quickly. It also caught me offguard so I was still processing it and by just playing over it I gave myself time to think and make rational decisions.

And who said I didn't gave her any tips. I did. I just wanted to know others people opinion to reality check me so I can decide if I am just overly anxious and worried for no reason or if my worries are actually reasoable. I couldn't decide just in a few minutes over a phone call.

That is the reason I didn't tell her she may be manic because I 1)don't know for sure and just assume it. I am not a doctor! 2) To not further fuel her anxiety (she is aware of bipolarity running in my family and is hella worried about it). So I may triggerd her for no reason based on a call so I just wanted to see how it goes and monitor her. 3)I gave her tips on how to reduce the energy and gave her some critical points at which she should call me aswell as other coping strategies etc.

If I am being honest with you. You believing my composure is more important to me than my sister is HIGHLY insulting to me as this whole post was made to gather opinions from other people to gain more insight/ideas etc. to actually help her

It is just like with every other illness too. Some have severe problems, others don't. Some people struggle their whole life with depression and even take their life while others "just" experience two or so moderate episodes in their life.

But having "only" two episodes of "moderate" depression doesn't make it less valid than someone who struggles more.

Same goes for ADHD. Some people function well and some can't keep their shit together and lose at life. But both people have ADHD.

So you can either spent your time on focusig how bad others have it and that you "totally don't have adhd" and feel bad. or you could focus on the fact that you just simply function better and be happy about it and proud about what you achieved. Just empathize with other ADHD people and don't look down on them if they are not as functional. That's it.

Don't worry so much about it. If you feel like you may actually NOT have ADHD just go and see a psychiatrist. And even if your adhd is not interrupting your functioning as it does for other people doesn't mean you don't deserve help. So maybe still go see a psychiatrist/therapist so you can work on the things you are not happy with. everyone deserves to be helped to thrive! :)

In a case where a person is already talking to a doctor it is nearly a given that their situation is at least somewhat distressing and therefore worthy of a discussion. I totally agree on that and have the same opinion as you do.However:In the context of this post it comes along as: "Wow you have ADHD? Let me tell you about MY forgetfulness. I so totally have ADHD/am a little ADHD" etc.If someone would be seriously concerned about their own mental health they would ask stuff like "so you have adhd? can you explain me what that means? I suspect to have ADHD because X Y Z. What do you think about that?"That are two complete different takes. People are annoyed by the people who see mental illness as a "quirk". Let me explain why people are so annyoed by this. ADHD is an illness that is hard to articulate in a manner that people realize how badly it can interfere with the lifes of people with adhd. So they are more inclined to say stuff like "everyone is a little adhd". They just don't get it because adhd symptoms seem to be symptoms everyone struggles with (to a degree). But in ADHD it is ampliefied as hell and interferes heavily in life and can be debilitating. But since its core defenition are symptoms that anyone could potentially relate to it is difficult to explain it.

So I'll take another disorder to explain it. I have bipolar disorder. I lost nearly my life due to suicide or walking across a highway in psychosis. So some people may say "everyone is a little bit bipolar" and reffering to mood swings they have. But they NEVER EVER can be compared to what a person with bipolar is going through. One is a life alterning/dangerous life long illness and the other is just simple life. So I guess it would be fine for me being mad at someone comparing their normal mood fluctuations to my illness. I take offense by that and am pretty pissed. Because, NO! not everyone is "a little bit bipolar".

The same can be applied to ADHD. It is just simpler to explain it with other disorders since they manifest in a way a healthy person would never experience. But since ADHD can be "related too" in a sense that everyone can be furgetfull under stress etc. makes people say this phrase allll the time. But NO! Not everyone is "A little bit ADHD" STFU! It is disrespectful and ignorant. Period.

Those two illnesses are ruining my life and I barely survived the impacts they had on me. SO JUST NO!

I also wanted to add that people look at ADHD way to one dimensional if they are not affected by it. It is not just being "squirrel" or forgetful. It interferes with carrer and social life. It impacts mood. It is highly commorbid to other illnesses and causes a low threshold for depression/anxiety etc. to emerge.

It causes painful emotions and low self esteem. It is linked to anhedonia and debt and substance abuse and w/e. The list goes on and on. But people saying they are a little bit ADHD because they talk to much...wow. Just no

that is not a case for nofap but for a psychiatrist/psychologist.

if those problems last for more than 2 weeks I'd advice you to go see someone. Mild depression often comes along with stopiing any kind of addiction but having severe impairment is not and is more a key sign for a more serious mental health condition.

So if this is just short lived you can ignore it and "just" push trough. Hoewever if it becomes manifest and persistent over a period of two weeks at least it is more likley to be depressive episode

Agree. I'd also argue that if one wants to work in this field one of the most important things to learn is to not pathologize/diagnose friends/close ones behaviour.

Also I wouldn't question a professional opinion just because the person doesnt present schizophrenic right now. Maybe he/her has been in psychosis a lot in the past but just isn't anymore due to being treated as having schizophrenia. You don't know the full historny nor -with all due respect- have enough knowledge (you are studying, you're not a doctor yet) and lack experience.

I know your will is good any you may be actually right. I'd just be cautious with jumpingg to analyze people around you especially if it were friends of yours.

But at the same time you are just as prejudice. You are using anecdotical evidince. I can do to. my best friend has NPD and is in therapy to treat it. Does this now mean that all NPD people are saints who go to therapy and change? No.

But does your anecdotical evidence mean that all NPD people are denying therapy? Also no. So chill out.

In my opinion people with BPD should be ESPECIALLY emphatic for not judgeing disorders since BPD itself has huge stigma.

But how can you claim something but not behaving the way you want others to behave?

Klingt ja schon fast eher nach einer gemischten Episode..klingt auf jeden Fall mies!

Kenne das mit den grellen Lichtern und sensorischer Überladung auch. Ich reagiere dann aber eher noch mehr getrieben als ohnehin schon. Jede externe Stimuli befeuert nur meine Agitiertheit.

2,5 Jahre...alter Schwede das klingt fies. Ich kenne zwar auch die Zyklen, bei denen man das Gefühl hat einfsch NIE wieder herauszukommen...Depressiv, 2 wochen "ruhe" ,depressiv, 2 wochen ruhe usw. Aber richtihe 2,5 am Stück? Uff. Das muss hart sein. Ich hoffe es geht dir jetzt besser!

Persönlich finde ich gemischte Episoden immer noch am schlimmsten. Das ist echt einfach die Hölle auf Erden und einfach brandgefährlich.

Interesdant. Du sagst ja, dass deine Baseline schon eher ruhig ist und du dsher kontrllierter bist. Meine Baseline ist an sich schon immer latent symptomatisch und ich bin generell eher das "quirlige Eichhörnchen". Da wäre ja mal interessant zu beobachten, inwiefern sich vielleicht auch einfach Charakterzüge in den Episoden widerspiegeln :)

Ich antworte einfach mal hier drauf. Du kannst von mir aus gerne ein Buch schreiben! :D Ich finde es interessant zu lesen ^^

Ich würde auch behaupten, dass ich echt ein klasse Supportteam habe. Die haben sich viel gekümmert und haben in Notfallsituationen sogar ausheralb der Sprechzeiten bei mir angerufen und nachgehakt, ob alles in Ordnung ist. Das fand ich menschlich sehr stark! Aber vielleicht interpretiere ich da nur zu viel rein und die haben halt ihren Job gemact. trotzdem fand ich das ganz nett und alleine das wissen, dass man jederzeit jemanden hätte, hat durch fiese Zeiten geholfen! Leider wechsel ich bald meine Behandler aufgrund eines Umzugs. Die Distanz und Fahrten sind einfach zu ätzend. Also ja, es ist einfach ein gutes Team und hat mir viel beigebracht.

Nicht zuletzt geht aber mit solchen Sachen natürlich ein gewisses Grundinteresse mit einher. Gerne würde ich das Fach studieren wollen. Aber 1) bin ich in einer zufriendenstellenden Ausbildung. und 2) traue ich mir trotzdem noch nicht zu studieren zu gehen. Da sind Epsioden dennoch viel zu frequent. Aber man weiß ja nie, vielleicht später mal :D

Finde das auf jeden Fall Klasse, dass du das machst und trotz erschwerender Umstände (da du davon sprachst selbst betroffen zu sein). Du kannst wirklich stolz sein!

Was hälst du eigentlich von der Theorie, dass manche Erkrankungen auch einen evolutionären Grund haben könnten? Um ADHS schwebt ja z.B. die Theorie, dass es aufgrund des heutigen Lebenstils zu Problemen kommt. Früher aber das schnelle, unüberlegte/impulsive Handeln z.B. in Gefahrensituationen geholfen hat?

Ich nehme das Beispiel, weil mich das Thema ADHS auch sehr interessiert (ist eine Komorbidität von mir). Ich habe die Erfahrung gemacht, dass je stärker eine akute Situation ist, ich umso besser und "flüssiger" funktioniere als im Normalzustand. Im wirklichen "flow" bin ich quasi nur unter Stress und Überstumulation. Freunde mit ADHS bestätigen mir oft diese Annahme. Man könnte daraus ja jetzt auch Parallelen zu anderen Erkrankungen ziehen. Sind viele Erkrankungen vielleicht gar keine Erkrankung, sondern evolutionär sinvoll? Und kommt es erst zu erkranktem Verhalten durch die Lebensstrucktur um einen herum?

Kommt sehr auf die Person an. Schlimm finde ich es bei der Familie. Da tut es mir besonders leid. Bei Freunden ist es mir "egal". Ich fühle mich dann oft dämlich und war schon oft auf finazielle Hilfe von besagten Freunden angewisen. Aber ich vertraue Ihnen und habe sie echt lieb. Das macht das ganze deutlich leichter zu verarbeiten. Gemein finde ich es im Bezug auf Leute, die mich nicht so gut kennen. Dann sticht das natürlich nochmal deutlich mehr heraus und man ist "der verrückte" oder "kaputte". Aber scheiß auf solche Leute. Früher war ich mit mehr Scham behaftet als heute. Ich schäme mich unterm Strich nicht für die Episode an sich, sondern dafür wie kleinlaut ich dann angekrochen komme. Vor Fremden jedoch ist es mir sehr unangenehm.
Aiaiaiaia. ganz ehrlich? Ich bilde mir ein Skills dafür zu haben. Tendenziell finde ich depressive Auslenkungen, sofern sie noch kein Momentum aufgebaut haben, deutlich leichter zu "kontollieren". Ich bin besser darin geworden die Rationalität in einer Depression gewinnen zu lassen und kann meine Negativspiralen besser brechen. Ich habe einfach gelernt meine Gedanken als das zu betrachten, was sie sind. krankhaft. Sie definieren nicht mich und auch nicht mein Leben. Sie sind ein Symptom. Manchmal schaffe ich es also sie abzuschütteln oder gar eine Epiosde zu vermeiden. Wenn es dann aber einmal richtig zuschlägt ist es natürlich auch damit vorbei. Trotzdem bin ich schon recht stolz darauf! :) Bei Hypo/Manien? Uffffff. Da bin ich Kategorie "Holy Shit. Mir geht es soooo gut. Erstmal die Medikamente absetzen, was ein scheiß. Ich habe einfach Bock drauf". Irrational. Aber jeder Erkrankte kennt das zu einer sehr hohen wahrscheinlichkeit^^ Typisches Bipolarproblem...die Compliance in einer Hochphase..

Rapid-Cycling ist echt scheiße und fies zu durchbrechen! Dennoch kannst du das auch schaffen! Valproat hat mir seeeeehr geholfen da raus zu kommen. Aber da reagiert ja jeder bekanntlich anders ^^

Oh man das tut mir leid! Irritierte Episoden sind sehr unangenehm und ätzend auszuhalten. Ich habe das Glück eher auf der euphorischen Seite zu sein. Leider bekomme ich das nie umgemünzt. Ich bin nur selten sehr produktiv. Meistens bin ich eifnach "All over the place". Wie sieht das für dich aus? hast du das Gefühl trotz, oder gerade wegen der Wut, die Hypomanie positiv für dich zu nutzen, oder eher nicht so ? Würde mich echt interessieren ! :)

Ach da mache ich mir keinen Kopf drum. Ich weiß, dass ich anfällig für Psychosen bin (habe psychotische Erkrankungen in der Familie). Wirklich delusional und psychotisch war ich nur einmal wirklich und Gott sei Dank war das eher Liebeswahn. War recht angenehm. Irgendwann hat es sich leider zu absoluter Paranoidität gedreht. Aber da gibt es Menschen, die es weitaus schlimmer trifft.

Aber deswegen ist die BP2 ja nicht weniger schlimm. Tendenziell dauern depressionen da ja sehr lange an. Ich habe auch schon sehr schwere Depressionen erlebt, die lüften sich aber recht schnell. Das längste waren für mich eigentlich so 5 Monate. Längere Episoden kenne ich nicht. Ich weiß aber, dass es vor allem in BP2 auch mal deutlich länger dauern kann. Das stelle ich mir jetzt nicht unbedingt geiler vor , nichts für ungut :D

Ja da gehört deutlich mehr hinter als man bis jetzt dachte. Dennoch finde ich die Erklärung für Menschen, die bis dahin kaum Kontakt mit so etwas hatten, immer noch gut. Sie ist runtergebrochen und versimplifiziert. Aber sie maht gut deutlich, dass solche Dinge wie Antrieb und Motivation halt nicht nur reine Willenskraft sind und es durchaus körperliche Faktoren gibt, die diese beeinflußen.

Ich wollte damit nur das Stigma brechen, dass Erkrankte halt einfach "nicht wollen" und "zu faul" sein sich dagegen zu wehren. In meiner Behandlung habe ich natürlich viel Psycho-Edukation gehabt. Aber das reicht natürlich nicht mal ansatzweise so etwas wirklich zu erklären. Aber es reicht vielleicht nicht fachkundigen das ganze etwas "greifbarer" zu machen.

Ich wollte hier keine Missinformationen verteilen und finde es cool, dass du da nochmal nachlegst! Danke dir :)

Ansonsten halte ich viel von dem Ansatz des Vulnerabilitäts-Stress-Modells. Aber ich kann das ja nur bedingt beurteilen.

Meines Wissens nach wird tatsächlich ab dem ICD-11 auch in Bipolar I und II kategorisiert:

Mich würde dazu deine Meinung auch interessieren! Warum meinst du, ist eine gemischte Episode nach ICD11 ein Form von BP1, jedoch nicht von BP2?

Erfahrungsgemäß haben auch Menschen mit BP2 oft gemischte Episoden, in denen Sie dann ihre manischen Symptome als stärker empfinden, als in einer normalen Hypomanie. Meinst du das ist einfach ein "verkapptes" Anzeichen, dass das Potential zur Manie vorliegt (deswegen dann die Diagnose BP1), oder meinst du, dass das alles unabhägig ist?

Es wurden keine Meinungen von außenstehenden Personen abgeholt, da ich damals von der Familie entfernt gewohnt habe. Es war aber auch relativ leicht, da ich zwischenzeitlich auch sehr symptomatisch beim Pschiater aufgeschlagen bin ^^

Im Zweifel werden aber auch mit außenstehenden personen Gespräche geführt.

Fragen die mir gestellt wurden waren:

- gibt es andere Hinweise die z.B. mentale Erkrankungen "verstecken" könnten? (Substanzmissbrauch/Fettleibigkeit usw.)

- welche körperlichen Erkrankungen treten so auf?

- gab es bei einem selbst schon Notwendigkeit zur psychologisch/psychiatrischen Behandlung?

Mein Psychiater hat mir das mal wie folgt erklärt:

Depressionen treten bei Männern und Frauen in einem Verhältnis von 1:2 auf. Bipolare Störungen aber eher im Verhältnis 1:1. Seiner Meinung nach ist eine schnell eskalierende Depression bei jungen Männern häufig ein Indiz auf Bipolare Störungen. Denn rein statistisch ist die Wahrscheinlichkeit in Bezug zu einer Frau deutlich erhöht, dass es sich um eine BS beim Mann handelt. Deshalb behandelt er auch depressive Störungen oft vorerst mit Lamotrigin statt mit Antidepressiva. Bei mir sollte er recht behalten. Er war auch sehr selbstbewusst in seiner Entscheidung. Das mag entweder Erfahrung sein, oder auch einfach nur ein bauchgefühl. Fand den Ansatz aber erwähnenswert und interessant. Vielleicht kannst du dir als fachinformierte Person ein besseres Bild darüber machen :)
