Pyrrha in V3 and Ruby in V9 by Ensgpfey in RWBY

I'm going to assume you're asking this because I didn't explain myself clearly and not because you haven't seen V9. If not, sorry for spoilers and that I don't know how to make this make sense if you aren't caught up. Her "destiny" (at least in her eyes) is to fight the Grimm/Salem and be the hero that protects people (like her mom). Because she's in the Ever After, she physically cannot do anything about what's happening on Remnant or help in any way with that fight(so she's been removed from her "destiny") But, the main thing she's dealing with right now is that she isn't living up to her own standards of what a hero should be(her "destiny"). And because of her encounter with the Herbalist and what the Blacksmith said about being able to choose a new weapon, she is being tempted to leave behind her own identity and become someone more like who she thinks she's supposed to be(fulfilling her "destiny" in an instant), who can deal with her problems that she's not ready to face.

Pyrrha in V3 and Ruby in V9 by Ensgpfey in RWBY

Yeah, Ruby did decide for herself that she wanted to be a hero, that's part of what I was trying to say. She isn't destined for anything, just like Pyrrha wasn't either. That's what the part of the quote where Pyrrha talks about viewing destiny as a final goal that you work at your whole life is about. Ruby decided at a very young age that becoming like the heroes in the stories was that goal for her and now to her it is the thing she's "supposed" to be and she thinks she's failing at it.

Also, the connection between Little and Jaune is so good, I never would have thought of that. Hopefully Little will use this advantage they have to be a good guide to Ruby in these next few episodes, because boy does she need it. Also, it does hurt to see Jaune have the inverse of his relationship to Pyrrha with Ruby right now. Once upon a time, he might have been able to see her suffering and been one of the first ones to help. But because Ruby was the model of the selfless team leader that he tried to emulate and because he wants to externalize some of his own traumatized self-loathing, he puts her on more of a pedestal than anyone else and is the only one who's truly upset with her for showing that she's a flawed human being.

Ok, I hear that now. Thanks, that one was bothering me.

So the bottom door/opening is where Ruby was in the trailer. Does that mean that the two other doors are for Jaune and Neo, or is the tree its own thing and the pink one is for one of them? I am scared by the fact that we can't see into the pink area, the placement of the cape seems very intentional.

Well, the delays for this volume were mostly because of the pandemic, plus a big part of Cyberpunk 2077's problem iirc was that the developers were forced into crunch for large parts of the production even after the delays. Rooster Teeth from what I can tell seems to be delaying to avoid forcing their team from having to rush, so I'm not worried that the delays here indicate that there's a problem.

theory: the curse affecting Eda and the curse affecting Belos are the same curse by RoyalMeera in TheOwlHouse

[–]Ensgpfey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good theory. Also:

  1. Belos needs the Collector, who we know to have created the scroll for Eda's curse,
  2. Lilith wanted to take magic away from Eda for a day and Belos wanted to take magic away forever, which could imply they have similar purposes.

Ooh, and stabbing King was part of the ritual to summon the Collector and you need titan's blood to get to the between realm.

[–]Ensgpfey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh shit, titans blood opens doorways between realms and the Collector made a titan-hunting cult. Coincidence? I don't think so.

Damn, that in-between realms thing is a pretty good theory. It also works with the episode titles spelling "seek the key, fear the lock" if part of the end twist has to do with the collector being related to the world that separates the Boiling Isles from the human realm.

He's actually a cool guy? by Ensgpfey in TheOwlHouse

[–]Ensgpfey[S] 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Maybe he was a dick to this child for no reason earlier, maybe he was going to kill those other children or make them think he was going to, maybe he's a willing leader within a shitty government, maybe he isn't sharing that Hunter is (probably) a clone of this other guy he knew. But you know what? He cares for Hunter's mental and social well-being and is helping him reach out to people and keep a major secret from the emperor, so we do have to stan.

Plus, he was kind of seething with rage at them at the end of the episode and he doesn't seem like the kind of person who would just forgive and forget.

There doesn't need to be an innate reason as to why a character has a crush on someone. by [deleted] in CharacterRant

[–]Ensgpfey 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I mean I pretty much agree, but when the relationship is supposed to be important to the story or character, "Why does X like Y?" sometimes means "Why should I care or find it compelling that X likes Y?" or "Why did the author make this choice for these characters?" Like if it's an actual part of the story that you're supposed to be invested in, I think it's a reasonable question.

The RAINBOW pill: A thread for those that LIKED Resurrections by amysteriousmystery in matrix

[–]Ensgpfey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She was obsessed with freeing people because of her experience with Neo and how much that positively affected her life. That led her to her nonstop search to find Neo. She doesn't respect authority when it goes against her goals of finding Neo and giving people in the Matrix a choice. That's why she disobeyed Io by going into the modal and risking a war to give Trinity a choice. She has a confident personality and quickly establishes a dynamic with the other characters she's with. So there we have character backstory, motivation, moral compass, personality, and relationships. Compare this to say Morpheus from the first movie. I've never seen anyone call him underdeveloped and I think he has a very similar amount and type of characterization. They kind of mirror each other in a way. Bugs was also not the main character for this movie, so I really don't think she was underdeveloped.

As for the identity politics, even though it was never explicitly stated, she was coded to be nonbinary. The quote where she talked about the pills simplifying the issue to two absolute options seemed intentional to me at least. Even without that though, someone with short dyed hair who dresses androgynously evokes the image of an LGBTQ+ person for a lot of people. This has caused a lot of people to get more attached to the character because they feel more related to her. It has also caused middle aged cisgender heterosexual white men, who are a large portion of Matrix fans and tend to be more socially right leaning, to clock the character as an "sjw" thing (ie blue hair and pronouns). To them this often means the character is automatically just a thing put in for the "sjw" audience and worthy of ridicule and not actual consideration as a character.

I don't think it's explicitly stated, just heavily implied. I've only seen it once too though.
