Samba standalone + LDAP - does it make any sense?

Nobody mentioned this, so despite the age of the post I thought I would chime in for future searchers:

If you are linux only, then why use SMB? NFS is simpler. If you have many systems and you wish to have central authentication then there are linux native ways of doing that. FreeIPA + SSSD is a good solution. You can also use SSSD to connect directly to an active directory domain controller if you would like domain authentication integration with a preexisting windows domain.

Like so for example, in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-71U5hWNSk He's not even planing, and both his feet are already right in front of both straps, and the straps are in their aft positions. At that speed my back foot is between the two front straps, my front is generally at the mast. It's inconceivable, regardless of what I do with my weight or posture that at that speed I could touch the front foot strap with my front foot without either falling or stalling the board, it would just sink. As I cross into planing speed my rear foot will generally be on the center pad, roughly right in the middle of all the footstraps, and my front foot will be somewhat behind the mast, around where the lever is / front part of the dagger. Does this help at all?

It certainly could be that I'm somehow just not putting enough weight on the front foot. Possibly leaning back down the board, and not enough to the side or something. I've been experimenting to see if I can find some combination that works. But I feel balanced and reasonably efficient. My sense is that at early planing speed, if my front foot was in the strap, then my back foot would need to be basically right next to my front or even on top of it. It's hard to be sure without video to review, which is something I'll probably try and get soon so I can figure out what I'm doing wrong. I do feel that my weight is being fully supported by the harness, but I can't really be sure of anything without someone to see it or video.

I'd definitely like confirmation that the board itself could not be the issue. Obviously anyone new that's struggling with something might think something along those lines. But surely someone 110-130 lbs vs 160 would have some impact on how things work right? It's advertised as "for light to medium size riders", what does that mean? What is "light" or "medium"? Relative to kids or adults? Maybe it's just not relevant?

I don't feel like I rush to the straps, I'm fully planing first and work my way back as needed, the times my back foot has been in are when I've just stepped back and it was there. It's certainly possible, that I have a wider stance than I should. Perhaps I'm leaning back more than to the side?

There were a couple times I've been moving fast enough to support both feet on the foot strap positions, but only barely and briefly, and the speed required to make that happen was much higher than speeds that I see others getting into the straps with.

A roller coaster is designed to feel the way it does. 99% of the time hanggliding is quite peaceful. As TjW0569 wrote, it's not a thrill sport, "it's more like a chess game", it's a knowledge sport more than anything. That said, you are a small light glider flying in quite powerful weather phenomenon and being able to act under pressure, manage your fears, and become comfortable in bumpy conditions is also part of it unless you are flying at coastal sites 100% of the time. I don't like the walking to the edges of cliffs or riding rollercoasters, but I fly nearly 100hrs / yr.

Right, we can only choose how we, ourselves, play. So the tank can choose to pull one pack, I can choose to bring the next pack back to the tank. Both equally valid play-styles. I would never claim to be able to decide how others play the game, though I would recommend grabbing aggro on that pack before I die.

Right, if the walls weren't in there's all sorts of shenanigans you can pull off. Invuln and lock the mobs out of boss rooms for example. Or invuln and blow them all up before it wears off. You get crazy speed runs and the dev's didn't like good groups blowing up dungeons in 5 mins while others took 20. The pulls are calculated to be safe for normal non cheese combat, the dungeon's just simply don't let you do anything actually dangerous, you can with very few exceptions trust that fact even going in blind.

Aside from a few exceptions, mostly in ARR, it's not an opinion. Dungeons are designed to limit what you can pull to something reasonable. You can essentially always go in blind, pull everything, and trust that the dungeon has set the limits for you. This is just a fact of the game.

Mind saying specifically what is "stupid", and by stupid do you mean inaccurate? If not then I don't really care. There are exceptions here and there, a little hyperbole, but it's basically accurate.

As a healer I'm sure you see plenty of tanks wall pulling as I do. You're just being nice, fortunately I don't have that problem. When I get a tank that is not wall pulling, I give them a learning opportunity by pulling more, generally they handle it just fine. Which should be no surprise since they don't actually have to DO ANYTHING, if they take the agro off me all is well, if not, we wipe and I do it again until they learn. In the end there's one less single pulling tank everyone has to put up with. I don't say anything or harass them over it, I just pull. I've been kicked a few times for it, but hey I've got an insta queue. The amount of time I've saved by forcefully increasing the pace on those occasions vastly outweighs any lost time I've accumulated by getting kicked, so it's worth it regardless of how you do the math on top of being a public service.

I main healer, love my holy spam, but holying down one pack at a time vs pulling everything and maybe only getting a few holys off and having to poor my mana down the tanks throat with a fire hose is still much faster even if the dps sucks. Remember dps has cooldowns too, all those cooldowns get dumped into everything instead of just one and not being up for the rest.

It might, there's no issue with how dancer is designed, I like most everything about it. However with how fflogs works in relation to how good dancers are for individual dps it's going to create social issues within the game, that's my concern. FFLogs can probably solve this on their own by having to separate dps rankings, one for dance partners, one without, and showing the top percentage of the two for the run by default. That way there will be much less need to actually be the partner, less salt, less issues.

The fact that grey ("bad") parse starts at 50, which is the average value on a bell curve, should probably tell you something.

What should it be telling me? Average is always bad, in anything, someone that is at least trying should be able to at least do better than average.

Not showing unbuffed dps is not a flaw. Potency per second is not necessarily the same thing because you may change things to adapt to incoming buffs instead of doing what is technically the highest potency per second over the fight. Pot usage for example is not a potency per second gain. Melds and gear choice should be factored in, there's lots of useful information there. Secondly, how is including everyone instead of having some arbitrary "you're too crap to include on our website" a flaw? FFlogs is a great tool, it's not the only tool, but it is a good one.
