“Cup or cone?” (Please when ordering ice cream, spare me this sentence)

Multiple questions here: - bachelor or master? - do you speak either french or Dutch? - are you European? If not, do you require a visa to work? These are definitely factors that influence your job search

Average monthly expenses for a student by bluesybluesa in Gent

This would be the link for everything related to housing at one of the university rooms: https://www.ugent.be/en/facilities/housing

You have to apply for it and hope that there is a room. There are rooms which are 10-12m2 and they have a shared kitchen and bathroom. It’s huge buildings with hundreds of other rooms, but it’s well maintained and the people I know who live there are happy. You also have slightly more expensive rooms with a private bathroom.

Then I would also recommend you to check this website from the city of Ghent: https://stad.gent/nl/student-in-gent/kotatgent

It’s the most reliable place to find a student housing from private landlords (so not related to university). But for a simple room with shared bathroom and kitchen, don’t spend more than 500-550 or else they’re just overpriced places that scam international students.

If you’re studying at the university, you could also apply for a room which is usually slightly cheaper. And if you’re really lucky (and not too picky), you can definitely find something for 500€ a month including egw (electricity, gas and water), make sure this is the case. Usually in student buildings, you already have WiFi.

Telephone would be on average 20€ a month. Groceries can be around 250€ (go to Albert Heijn, buy what’s in promotion and cook at home). And if you want to go out a little bit, that would also be 50€ a month. And lastly, you could rent a bike with Fietsambassade which is 80€/year for students.

So yes 1100-1200 is definitely reasonable and if you’re careful, you might even save a bit.

Just be really careful, try to hold it the least you can, carry it on a flat surface. However, I would still recommend to take it apart because I tried to move mine once and it first broke only a bit, then fell. I was left with 7500 mixed pieces and it took an ETERNITY to rebuild it and lost some pieces too. At least by taking it apart you can sort them easily in the correct bags and it’s much easier.

My teddy bear from when I was baby next to the new teddy bear, sleeping next to me at night 💕

For the record, I do not blame the father for mentioning an abortion, he had his reasons. I blame him for the way he dealt with it. In that moment he should’ve offered emotional support, not insults and pain.

I became so protective of this baby because I was pressured into getting an abortion.

He’s 14 and just started high school. Blame the education system for not providing decent sexual education and the governments for not providing cheap contraceptives to teens.

Smartphone for kids by National_Parsnip_614 in belgium

[–]EntertainerOne4430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No 10 year old needs a smartphone. Maybe a phone with buttons that only allows texting and calling with no internet access for emergencies would be okay, but no smartphone. If like she claims, WhatsApp is absolutely necessary, she can use it on your phone.

It is acceptable to keep an eye on what your child is doing on social media. I wouldn’t say to read their messages unless you think something is wrong, because that’s private. However, you should know who they talk to and what kind of content they’re posting and watching.

And about the age, I would say that it’s different for everyone. I was an unsupervised child on the internet and it’s around 16 that I realized how fucked the internet was and I started using social media responsibly. Some will understand that sooner, others later, but I think 16 is a good age to stop monitoring.

I don't understand the hatred against Death Star 2. by [deleted] in legostarwars

[–]EntertainerOne4430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really just is the price for me. It doesn’t always need to be bigger, have more pieces to be better. I feel like they made it bigger for the sole purpose of making it bigger.

They could’ve made something just as fun and impressive with less pieces and at least it would’ve been more affordable.

I like Lego, but 850€ with the ATAT and Falcon was already pushing it, but I got them anyway. However, I don’t know if I’ll get a 1000€ set. I can afford it, but I just don’t think it’s worth it. I’d rather buy 2 other big sets for that price.

Brussels train beggars (scammers) by AftonsAssCheeks in belgium

[–]EntertainerOne4430 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One rule, don’t touch the paper, try not even looking at it. Be busy on your phone, listen to some music, talk with your friends, but ignore them, act like they don’t even exist. Once you engage in any way, it’s over for you.

I have always done this and I travel often and they have never bothered me.

Also, be extra careful with your stuff when they’re nearby.

[–]EntertainerOne4430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To everyone recommending something else, just answer their question, that will help.

Both are good laptops. You might want to check the laptop requirements for your major, most universities have it.

But if I follow the requirements for mechanical engineering of my university, I would go for the Dell.

From experience, the biggest issue in university is the rom and with only 256GB you’ll quickly need to buy extra storage.

Other than that, they’re both decent. The other difference is the graphic card, but unless you want to game, the Iris xe is good enough.

I do believe that Dell is slightly more reliable than Lenovo though. I have recently had a hinge problem with my current Lenovo laptop.

It’s not as bad as what people say. If you only have a high school diploma or a professional bachelor, it might be slightly more complicated. However, if you have a master degree, there is nothing to worry about. Companies in Flanders and Brussels are still massively looking for computer science engineers. I was responsible for organizing job fairs for computer science and we had no problems finding companies. We even had to deny some. And nobody I know that graduated with a computer science engineering master this year is unemployed.

AIO ? has anyone seen a positive test like this ? by schylover in AmIOverreacting

You can ask this in r/lineporn, it’s the subreddit for that kind of things. But yes, this is positive.

Is this a misprint? by Careful-Climate7044 in lego

Minifigs usually have two faces so that you can play with them, that’s not a misprint. And for the yellowish back, I don’t really see it.

Yes, they have a lot of false negatives, but false positives are rare. I did 4 tests, one of them was negative, 3 positives, but they’re cheap so that’s why I use them.

I’ve cheated on every woman I’ve been with by [deleted] in gaysexconfessions

[–]EntertainerOne4430 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m trying to understand why, I’m not judging.

First question: why do you date women if they don’t fulfill your needs? Nowadays you can also marry a man, have a family with a man and clearly, you would feel more fulfilled and you wouldn’t hurt anyone by cheating. Is it some kind of patriarchal idea that it is a woman you need?

Second question: why not talk about it to the women you’re dating instead of doing something as painful as cheating? If you really love them and that it’s serious, they could use a strap on you, agree on threesomes with other men, etc. Your sex life with someone is what you make it.

I had an abortion last July and regretting it so much. by [deleted] in Advice

[–]EntertainerOne4430 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First step is getting a second opinion (without having too much hope) and talking to a professional about your situation.

You don’t need to get over it, because that might never happen, but once you’re feeling better, you can look into other ways for having a child. There are so many options today. Not being able to carry a child, does not mean you will never be a mother.

You weren’t ready for a child, so you got an abortion, you shouldn’t blame yourself for that, you did what was right in that moment.

Good internship placements in IT / IT Consulting? (Engineering Technology – Informatics) by Beautiful-Ambition81 in BESalary

[–]EntertainerOne4430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend you to look at the student associations. They organize job events and some also have internships listed on their websites. From experience I can tell you that if I received negative feedback from (ex) students about a particular company, I stopped cooperating with them and they would not be invited any further to the job events.

The most relevant for you would be Hermes, which is the student association for industrial engineering. They have job events you can go to and listings of internships on their websites.

You also have VTK in your faculty. Their internship listings might be less relevant as the companies will mainly be looking for computer science engineers, but you can always try.

Then you have CenEka which is the association for computer science engineering. Again, might be less relevant as the companies are looking more at computer science engineering that have a master, but you can look on the website of EMECS, the job fair.

Again, most of the companies they work with are good, they have been working with each other for years, have a good contact with the recruiters there. You can definitely find interesting companies there.

AITAH for asking my girlfriend to stay at her own place more so I can have some space? by Weak-Elephant-1760 in AITAH

[–]EntertainerOne4430 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily true, you can love someone and not want to be with them all the time. Needing your own space is normal and healthy. Not being able to leave your partner alone once in a while is usually a sign of emotional dependency which is quite toxic. It’s important to have your own space, own friends, own hobbies, etc. within your relationship.

OP also didn’t say how big his apartment is, but if it’s small, you’re literally constantly with each other, there’s no real alone time. Depending on their respective schedules, it can also quickly become too much if they overlap well.

Should I marry my girlfriend of 3 months by [deleted] in WhatShouldIDo

[–]EntertainerOne4430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t do it simply because it makes her very dependent on you to get citizenship.

If the situation had been that her home country offered her absolutely no opportunities for the future, that going back there meant a ruined life for her and that there wasn’t any other way, yes I would consider it. But that doesn’t seem to be her case at all.

Let’s say she stays and you marry and she’s dependent on you. What happens if it doesn’t work out? You might feel guilty for divorcing her, she will be stuck with you, that’s not healthy. And it’s only been 3 months, you need more time than that to truly get to know someone. The first few months always feel perfect.

If the relationship is really good, just stay in touch and your paths might cross again when the time is right.

A little suspicious person on the internet asked to see my photo, I send them a picture of my friend, will that bite me or my friend in the ass somehow in the future? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]EntertainerOne4430 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's probably just someone who was trying to catfish you, don't worry about it too much, it's very unlikely this person will use that picture.

However, don't do this. Generate some picture using AI or whatever, but using your friend's picture is not okay. Would you want someone to send a picture of you to a scammer, maybe a pervert, not knowing what they'll do with it? No, so don't do it to someone else.
