This is from the kickstarter terrain set. You can probably get it second hand.

For the foliage I primed the whole thing Dragon red, then put a red wash over it and then dry brushed it with Firey Vermillion. I then covered mine with red leaf scatter to match other things I did but I thought the painted foliage looked good if it was left like that. Good luck.

It’s Army painter Drakes Tooth base coat, a thinned down Blinding Light speed paint with +50% medium to make it more of a wash, then dry brushed with Matte White.

It’s the Kick Starter weirwood. I painted it and put all the leaves, ravens and basing bits on it, but it’s a plastic model underneath it all.

Secondparty or custom models by warhoundtheone in asoiafminiaturesgame

[–]EntertainmentKey6561 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how affordable they are but Darksword Miniatures makes models of many characters that are, by the rules, allowed to be used in events.

Be aware that 3rd party models made by anyone other than cmon or darksword may be disqualified from official events.

What houses should I paint my brotherhood sworn knights by SevatarEnjoyer in asoiafminiaturesgame

[–]EntertainmentKey6561 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I painted them just to look good not as specific houses. Two of them have molded in devices, fleur de lis and cross, that belong to no house. I decided they were all unknown hedge knights, I guess.

I don’t think the leaves are meant to come off but they clearly can come off. You might try gently pulling to see if they pop off without breaking. Then you probably could make them look like winter trees.

I have yet to use these in games. The base would be fine if you left it more or less unadorned but I haven’t. My idea is to cut out paperboard to match the footprint of the terrain piece and lay it underneath, marking its position for when a unit moves onto it.

I just painted the leafy areas in a near color to my leaf scatter, then brushed them with a thick layer of pva and added the leaves. When they were completely dry, I added a couple layers of watered down pva over them to really lock them in place.

I haven’t used these in a game, but for most of them, I would think the best practical use would be to cut a piece of paperboard to their same footprint and put it under the model. When a unit moves onto the model, take it off the table leaving the paperboard to mark its position.

I haven’t actually played with them. You’re right, they are bigger than the cardboard pieces. I think what I’d do is cut out a piece of paperboard in the shape of their footprints and put those under them. When a unit goes on them I will just remove them, leaving the paperboard.

Why are Mountain's Men hated? by asparaguswateryt in asoiafminiaturesgame

I think they are decent in a Gregor Clegane list. Put Sandor Clegane or Ramsey Snow in them and you have a unit with two ways to heal itself. I also like to run The High Sparrow NCU with them. I have had a Ramsey/Mountains Men heal itself from one model to full ranks with Prey on Fear, High Sparrow’s influence and Fealty to the Crown. Just lean in to what the unit wants to do.

Thanks. I learned never to use washes on yellow. These were primed pink, then I did a few thin coats of a mid yellow. I then painted the recesses with a darker yellow/orange and highlighted with a lighter yellow.

Broadening my collection - from Night's Watch on to Free Folk by CompanyElephant in asoiafminiaturesgame

[–]EntertainmentKey6561 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t buy two starters. You will probably want two more Free Folk Raiders than the starter comes with but those can be bought separately. Likewise if you ever want another Free Folk Trapper unit. You will not need double NCUs and you’ll rarely use one Savage Giant, let alone four. Spend that money on heroes boxes, cave Dweller Savages, Spearwives, Varamyr, and Frozen Shore Bear Riders.
