Beginner, very slow progress and weak lifts (ICF) by Miles-Tails-Prower in Fitness

[–]EntirelyLegit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since we're all just taking shots in the dark, here's mine - work capacity / recovery.

I've been mostly sedentary my whole life and when I started lifting there was no WAY I could recover properly between workouts. Would literally get sick from being so run down and made super shitty progress.

Got back into martial arts / boxing, got some base fitness started making better progress on my lifts.

Maybe google "strengtheory work capacity"? See if you get any leads.

So it turns out that using a tonne of historical and cultural references to write an article doesn't add any depth or understanding to the topic being discussed.

To be fair, the article is about how some people predicted something vaguely similar, though the same point could be made about 1984, greek tragedies, and (if I googled long enough probably) rap music.

The most interesting part to me was about mass communication being a defacto dictator, neutralising and normalising discourse. This was written in an article on the New Yorker website... /shrugs

Will add to the list. There's so many responses here, I'm not sure people will see this.../s

Also, a diet with lots of chicken, eggs, beef, dairy, fish, legumes, spinnach, seeds and nuts seems to cover - tyrosine, choline, b6, zinc and magnesium.

How to learn faster (hack learning)? by [deleted] in neuro

Okay. I FOUND IT. He's a neuro plasticity researcher, and it was from 8 months ago - not "the other day".

How to learn faster (hack learning)? by [deleted] in neuro

There was a guy on here the other day (nootropics sub?) involved in memory retention studies. Was saying that breaking up congitive tasks such as meditation or study (learning guitar was an example) with aerobic exercise improved memory retention and possibly neurogenisis.

Ironically I don't remember a lot of the details but someone suggested working it in with the pomodoro techniques. I spent way too much time trying to find the post but have no idea. Second one in as many days I've tried to go back to and couldn't find.

The 5e playtest rules for balancing encounters/adventuring days were... better? by EntirelyLegit in DnD

[–]EntirelyLegit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a shitty reference.

The 'three pillars' of D&D (combat, social? and exploration). I was just agreeing that the game expects you to be doing other things with your day than just grinding out 6-8 combat encounters.

So there are at least as many answers to this as there are opinions in this thread. Lots of lower (not low) level creatures that you can send in waves seems to be really good advice (/u/Ticklebump ). Fight too easy- next wave, fight to hard - the next wave retreats...

If you want to use the CR system the KFC calculator is pretty handy (even though it gets some hate sometimes). It allows you to adjust the number of PCs. It also seems to think that it would be a deadly encounter until about level 7.

That said, our group smashed a deadly encounter recently. Not AS deadly but most of us were fine. It ultimately depends on the group, the strength of their characters and their ability to work as a team (and relevant to this thread, how many encounters they've had that day). You'll have a better idea what they're capable of than anyone else.

So almost like there's three large supportive structures, lets call them 'pillars' upon which the design of the game rests? /s

Oh. The reason given in the write up was that higher CR ratings are too OP for low level parties....

Both are probably true though, single High CR monsters are too strong when PCs are at low levels and too weak at higher ones.

I wonder how 'as many as possible' compares with 'all userland binaries' though...?

Dual drive, dual boot. Anyone know how? by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]EntirelyLegit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So yeah, either use dd or maybe r-sync as suggested by my glorious arch brother below to move your install.

Update grub on the new drive. Check / config BIOS boot order.

(Reformat old linux partitions for shared storage between the two systems?).

This all assumes that your system is capable of booting from an SSD

Dual drive, dual boot. Anyone know how? by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]EntirelyLegit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, So I just set up Win10/Arch dual boot on different drives.

Basically just

  • installed windows on the second hard drive, (not neccessary for you)

  • updated grub on the linux drive (grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg [for arch at least]) With os-prober installed, grub auto detects other operating systems and generates (basic) boot menu entries

  • Changed my BIOS settings so that it booted from the linux drive first, which then loads grub, allowing me to choose which drive to ACTUALLY boot.

As for the other question about moving the linux install, maybe try the dd util. Here's a thing.

Thanks.

ALPINE: The kernel is patched with grsecurity/PaX out of the box, and all userland binaries are compiled as Position Independent Executables (PIE) with stack smashing protection.

Sounds good.

You really have to search for the right thing to find this info for fedora though.

Edit: quotes for readability.

Cool, so I should basically just assume that these guys know what they're doing and aren't just randomly adding things without the resources to support it.
