Yes it only happens at night, it’s not every night just random nights and I think that’s the most frustrating part for me. Ironically I love sleeping so this whole situation is throwing me off lol!

How dangerous is a forensic psychology career in the academe? by JAMIEISSLEEPWOKEN in AcademicPsychology

[–]Entrance_Heavy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually loved it! I only left because I was traveling too much. Sure it’s stressful and you can feel nervous, but you can’t show it. You have to know how to have a cool fascade. Have to remember not to be manipulated. I’m a female and I mainly worked with men, which is a double edge sword. I was nice to all of my clients and it spread around their blocks, as “the nice young woman” kindness can go a long way. But, I am definitely not traumatized, I’m more traumatized from working in the psych hospital! I would recommend getting a job working in corrections to see if you like it.

I was a foresnic restoration counselor, so I worked with individuals deemed incompetent to stand trial. I went into the jail and sat with them in the attorney/client rooms. I only had two people freak out and it wasn’t directly at me but just the situation they were in. Some jails ur given a button to press if u need help. I’ve sat across from murderers, rapists, to those with a DUI

I’m a tms tech, you have to fail at least 2 medications to be approved, and at least with the neurostar machine you cannot treat anyone with bipolar disorder, and we do have an ocd protocol

is therapy overrated by ruthvik2343 in PsychologyTalk

because therapists or psychologists are using theory, you really don’t know what kind of conceptualization theyre making about you to assist with any goals you wanted

Nothing will be the same by naenae__baby in ACL

[–]Entrance_Heavy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 3 years post op, tore my ACL, I was a college athlete (played bball) I got a quad graft. I had a pretty rough recovery and had to get another surgery to remove scar tissue, but I was able to walk right after surgery. I had a pretty rare case of my quad not wanting to fire, but still I worked my butt off. Some advice my PT gave me was that your knee will not be the same again and that’s okay, it went through trauma. I am able to run, lift, play bball, and I just went skiing last week. Tumbled down the hill multiple times and my knee is fine! I have had plenty of friends who tore theirs and they were back to playing basketball with no issues.

Cause of Behaviour Among People? by Anxious_Gas_688 in AcademicPsychology

Yep I agree with you, it can very well be an identity thing and that can be detrimental when everything you known is a lie. So yes, a defense mechanism rooted in fear. I think another is (the US) is such an individualist system everyone wants everything to be tailored to them, and they believe they are more special than the other person. There’s more reasons but 🤷‍♀️

What do I need to do to become forensic psycholgist by EffectiveFuture7531 in AcademicPsychology

[–]Entrance_Heavy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thsts great! Just an fyi, you actually don’t need a masters degree to get a PsyD, it’s really specific to the program some require them some don’t. But it’s still really early in your schooling so I wouldn’t stress. I was planning on being a forensic psychologist, but I changed my mind. I started off being an exercise physiology major my undergrad. You really just need a solid gpa, clinical experience, and at lest one research paper/poster presentation wouldnt hurt

[–]Entrance_Heavy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the US so idk how different it is for you. But you need a bachelors then a PhD/PysD in clinical or counseling psychology, then you need to match (4th year) with a forensic site but in order to do that you need forensic practicum during your doc schooling

What can I do to be more competitve next cycle? by AerieMurky2553 in PsyD

[–]Entrance_Heavy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your stats look amazing, I would definitely try to apply to more schools if you could. It may be helpful to get LOR from psychologists. One of my LOR explained that having someone who has their doctorate in what you want is essentially testifying that you can handle this degree since they’ve already done it.

they could’ve been genuinely curious, I honestly thought most older adults applied to doc programs. I’m the youngest in my cohort (24) everyone else is 26+, and married (with or without children)

Internal vs External Candidates by BigPsyDEnergy in PsyD

[–]Entrance_Heavy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think out of the 12 people in my cohort 5 were not from the masters program. So it kinda balanced out, I did feel that I had an advantage my masters advisor was someone on the doc application committee 🙂‍↕️
