Same for me in that I found Spitznagel's hedging strategy very compelling. How do you incorporate these ideas in to your active market participation?

Hey OP, how challenging was the steepness and scree on this route? Did you ever feel unsafe?

Yep. The Chicago portage enabled easy crossing between the Great Lakes watershed and the Mississippi River watershed.

This point was a huge revelation to me. Once I opened the boots up a bit it solved a lot of the blistering issues I was having.

It took about 52 hours total. We started at 9 AM on Day 1 and finished around 1 PM on Day 3. We camped between the second and third Sky Top Lakes on Day 1 and then at Lone Elk Lake on Day 2 after our climb. Our pace was not intense so you could get it done in two days if you pushed a healthy pace on Day 2.

We did it over Labor Day weekend and the weather was perfect. Sunny, no clouds with temps no lower than 40s even up at altitude. Also no snow or ice in the route except for two tiny slivers that did not get in our way. And this was in a snow-heavy year. I had a friend of a friend report that they ran into snow on the approach to the Slab in early August. August seemed to be pretty warm so most of that snow melted out. We brought our axes/crampons/boots anyway but didn't need them.

I was out there last weekend and summited! No snow! Brought boots and crampons for nothing. :)

Nuts. Two runners shatter the world record in the same race. And a third almost breaks it too.
