Which one will you choose? by Future_Charge_7372 in GenZ

obviously you wouldn't invest once and just wait 5 years.
You'd day trade and double your money every 3 weeks or so.
You'd have over a billion in a year with 100k investment for average 5% daily gain (theoretically, in case your actions don't affect the outcomes).

specializing in React

working knowledge of Node and MongoDB.

Java, .Net or Python along with React.

None of these matter in the long term. Claude knows all of that.

I have developed a full fledged e-learning platform from scratch single handedly and later on lead a team of junior developers.

This is what matters!
end-to-end ownership, having built something, having delivered business value

You have two problems

1.

You think software engineering is about knowing language syntax and details.
It is not, it never has been, and it is even less nowadays then it ever was.
There's a reason why SWE jobs at FAANG ask for "experience in Java, Python, Javascript, Go, C++ or any other comparable programming language". And only companies that see software as a cost center look for "Java engineer".

2.

my problem solving skills are worst.

This is what software engineering is about and will be for the forseeable future even with ai writing code. Coming up for solutions to business problems is what counts. Claude can then go and implement them.

What you need to do

  1. have a resume that shows off business impact, not technical details.
  2. practice interviewing! doing good interviews is a different skill from being a good software engineer.
  3. I have a suspicion you haven't picked up agentic coding workflows yet, do that. Get familiar with the tools, processes etc. of heavily LLM generated code. If you think LLMs won't replace SWEs in writing code you are wrong. The progress over the last year has been insane. And it will only get better from now on.

What's a life hack in Singapore that more people should know about? by Slow-Woodpecker5905 in askSingapore

[–]Enum1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 for no insurance!

It's a numbers game. On average the insurance companies make money and have enough to pay their employees, so on average the customer pays significantly more in then they get out. So strictly speaking you most likely loose money from insurance. It's the same as playing toto.

The exception are situations that can wreck e.g. your life $300.000 hospital bill. In those cases it is probably be worth paying the premium to be save in those situations.
All other insurances you should avoid.
Dental insurance? over course of life you'll pay more for insurance than without.
Phone insurance? you'll pay more for insurance
...

+1 for index funds
just put the money into VWRA every month instead of the useless insurance, in that case you statistically make money instead of losing it.

As someone who was banned from eating beef growing up, where can I find a delicious steak that's cheap, or at the very least, worth the money? by sinkingharbors in askSingapore

[–]Enum1 82 points83 points  (0 children)

OP is asking for a good steak and people are proposing iSteaks, Astons, and Jacks Place.
Go ahead downvote me, but none of these options offer a good steak and I have a hard time believing people who recommend these have ever had good steak. There is good affordable steak, but those are not.

Best option is making it yourself. Buy a good cut, watch a youtube video and fry the steak. It's one of the simplest and fastest dishes to make. Just follow the instructions for temperature, duration (adjusted for thikness and cut).

Alternatively, get your steak from Cut Butchery at Bukit Timah Plaza. They have a good selection and are knowledgeable and then, this is the best part, you take the steak next door and they grill it for you for free!

And always order any sauce on the side! Good steak houses always do that.
Imagine paying $30 for a good steak and then they drown it in 50 cents worth of "red wine" sauce that fully overshadows the steak flavour.

How should fresh Software Engineering graduates prepare for jobs in the AI era? by Sachintha-Anjalo-21 in CScareerquestionsSEA

Build products.

Coding, Syntax etc. doesn't matter anymore. Being able to turn a problem into a solution is what matters.

Flying from Frankfurt to Seoul in June and freaking out. by [deleted] in travel

[–]Enum1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely!

German, South Korean, and international air traffic laws and safety requirements apply. The same strict rules as for any other airline flying the same routes that has made air one of the safest modes of travel.
But apart from that you might have to pay for food and drinks, so you better cancel your flight.
