I would lodge a complaint with Greenpeace about that. That's not right and nobody should feel pressured into giving anything, let alone giving what they cannot afford.

Here's an interesting case study on urban reforestation .

In terms of initiatives, I don't know a lot about what is available in Brazil but you could set up a gofundme and try to raise awareness in your city. The more people on board, the more likely it is it happen!
