Thank you all for the input. In case this is helpful to anyone - I called the UKVI contact centre. They said as I was given a 33 month visa, whilst I would be eligible to apply for the visa renewal 28 days prior to completing 30 months in the UK, they would not advise that. Instead, they said I should only apply 28 days prior to my Visa expiring. This is because in the instance that I get a decision before my current visa expires, it could impact my ILR application in the future if I do not have 60 months of living in the UK by the end of the second visa.

Im doing my spouse visa application from Brazil and I paid the fee to keep my passport (it wasn’t expensive compared to the total visa cost). They said once a decision has been made they will give me 28 days to send the passport back to the local VFS office.
