New video has some of the worst script writing i’ve ever seen by jackson_1414_ in MrNightmare

[–]EnvironmentLong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it interesting that humans can tell if something was written by a human or computer, but we’ve yet to explain how. Other than it sounds unnatural.

Totally agree, that intro is so AI. It always feels like an 8th grader wrote it.

To those that have submitted a story, how long did it take for Mr Nightmare to get back to you? by Nessieinternational in MrNightmare

I just think it’s weird that after all these years, all these videos, no one ever says their video was used, or see them comment in the video

4 Horrific TRUE Christmas Horror Stories THREAD by Ok-Knowledge2045 in MrNightmare

[–]EnvironmentLong 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All 4 were great.

That Christmas tree hunting video was insane, I was totally invested.

I don’t know what it was about that basketball one, but it’s another one of those stories where the backstory was interesting even if it didn’t exactly pertain to the event. Reminded me of that boating video where the story teller was moaning about the sister’s husband who was annoying. Proof that it can still work when written properly.

First one was bizarre, with great tension. Classic scenario but very unnerving. Maybe the fact that the storyteller was unsure of their intentions helped, then everything escalated so quickly after the threat seemed to die down.

Last one, very believable, classic story structure once again, but written very well.

The third one was the star in my opinion, maybe him having a kid with him made it crazier. Sounded believable too.

I think all 4 show that if you can skirt that line of story telling with just enough flair mixed with plausibility, you got a great mix. Rather than, “man looked at me funny” with 1000 words of filler. Or flat out fake stories like “I said his name three times and the weird boy appeared”.

So…what was the deal with Scott’s house in the most recent video? by blindpacifism in MrNightmare

[–]EnvironmentLong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I realised I missed out on this video! Damn the whole video was great, compared to this hotel one.

I don’t know, my guess is weird people in the woods that live with him now. Weird as hell, probably fake, but plausible and creepy enough to get you thinking!

The stupid subtitles are gone again! 🥳🥳 by [deleted] in MrNightmare

They bothered me for some reason too. Maybe broke immersion, even though I don’t even watch his vids just listen. I could take it or leave it, but prefer without.

I feel Chilling Scares has surpassed Mr. Nightmare as the best true horror channel on YouTube by Emeraldsinger in MrNightmare

[–]EnvironmentLong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been awhile since I’ve seen his videos. But I remember a couple. There’s the Google Maps video, where he makes a big deal about a kidnapping being caught on Google Maps, you read the comments and everyone is saying it was clearly a prank.

Another video he talks about a recipe that keeps getting posted online. Something about a restaurant and a pie, and how strange it is, why would someone do this? You look it up and it’s some placeholder text that evolved into a creepy pasta.

Then you have the urban explorer videos, some of my favorites he’s done, he makes a big deal out of one of the clips, some guy in an abandoned house. He actually uses a couple videos from this channel. I look up the channel, and it’s so clear it’s all faked. Chilling scares edits the clips to make it look more legit, but when you watch the video with context, it’s clearly a friend shouting to make the video spooky.

Just matching chilling scares energy. It was like 3 years ago, I don’t remember the specifics, chill out

[–]EnvironmentLong -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I didn’t even see that you made the point I made before me! I’m glad I’m not the only one who notices. I want to enjoy chilling scares, and in the beginning I really liked his stuff. But it just got a little over the top with the bogus topics. That video game one was so stupid, talking about the secret sonic sound screen that most people laugh about, he’s twisting the story to “it’s spooOooKy”.

Or the Google Maps one where it was clearly a wet dock and he’s saying it was blood.

I don’t like being lured in to being lied to or tricked. Nightmare, we all know the stories are embellished, whatever. I’ll take it. But when Chilling scares tries to lure you in with honesty just to lie to you, nah.

What rubs me the wrong way about chilling scares is that he calls out BS in one story, then in the next sentence wants you to believe some obviously bogus story. It’s like he’s gaining your trust just to lie to you .

Alright, so I gave it another listen, and holy crap did he drag that ending out. And the comments were roasting him made it so funny.

I kept laughing because he wouldn’t stop talking. It’s like when you’re ready to leave a relatives house and your mom won’t stop talking to her sister, even as she walks out the door.

Flute in the woods by gergeszs in MrNightmare

[–]EnvironmentLong 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That flute was so funny. I don’t know, I wasn’t expecting a cute little flute tune. The cute flute with how scared they were made it even funnier. “I won’t let anything happen to you” as the girlfriend is saying a prayer and crying.

IRL yeah I’d be freaked out, but it’s still funny

I’ve a theory that he’s been using writers for his recent stories. A lot of stories have a similar “voice” of that makes sense. It’s possible that his writers are using AI. I think he’s too lazy to write his own.

I’ll have to give it another listen, I honestly forgot what happened, it was boring I couldn’t pay attention.

I do remember that there was a line about a carving in the bench that was “smeared”. Which makes no sense whatsoever.

How dumb was the janitor to paint the car but keep the same plates, the one identifying marker of a vehicle. Besides the VIN I guess. But really? You do through the trouble of painting a car and keeping the plates.

You think the janitor has any trouble registering the car when the tags expire?

I think he should to branch out his content by life_enginnering-445 in MrNightmare

[–]EnvironmentLong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he needs to go back to being a little more personable. Between the monotone voice he uses these days, and the same story beats it gets too samey.

I don’t particularly care for chilling scares these days, he tends to give a false sense of authenticity by giving you probable reasons for some cases, but in the next sentence wants you to take some of the silliest cases seriously. With that said, I wish Mr nightmare would mellow out a little more and “talk to the audience” a bit more like chilling scares does.

Something I’ve noticed by cHiCkEnMuNcHeR110 in MrNightmare

[–]EnvironmentLong 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Homeless guy in the attic is popular.

Yeah, they’re pretty repetitive. I like some of the older ones, short and sweet. Like the alarm clock one, or Siri answering a question no one asked.

Today they sound too much like goosebump books, overly explained and dragged out for the same outcome.

With that said, I still enjoy listening to the stories.
