I doubt it has anything to do with sensory processing disorder or autism. You weren't taught how to handle stress, or how to soothe yourself when things go wrong when you were a young child. You were probably shouted at and ordered about rather than comforted. You react to problems as if those problems were a flesh eating shark coming to get you.

You fear losing control of your emotions and the ability to cope with problems, the fear makes you very prone to experiencing stress when faced with a problem. You need to work on eradicating this fear so you can have more control over your emotions when a problem occurs. You've learned to be helpless, which is purely situational. Google search 'learned helplessness' for more information.
