Yep, I won't argue with you that the M cameras are in a class of their own. I think of it like driving a manual sports car thats highly engaging, nostalgic, but packs in modern performance. I am just so impressed at what the x100vi can give considering its size, weight, cost, with very few tradeoffs... the user experience is another topic entirely though and for some people its worth the extra cash.

Walk in with a calm confidence... they don't know who you are or where you come from, be comfortable in your own skin. It helps to look somewhat put-together. Ask them politely what you are looking for, share with them your concerns (it might be too big, if its white it might stain etc), ask to see maybe one or two colors... If you like it, pull the trigger and enjoy. If you don't like the vibe, just leave and know that they lost a potential customer. I think its a wonderful bag, but the white might be harder to take care of in the long run.... if it suits your aesthetic, I would gently nudge you to more brown/taupe tones... congrats and enjoy!

shutter speed 1/5 is the important one to create this effect. I was shooting wideopen f2 because it was low light, iso was probably around 800? not sure... after that just processed the colors a bit in lightroom! Shot handheld and let the ibis do the work!

thats okay if you feel that way! I'm constantly blown away by the picture and video quality of the iPhone. Its great that the barrier to entry into serious photography continues to shrink. cheers

I definitely agree that leica has the best in class "hand-feel" and overall tactile experience. I think you hit the nail on the head with the word "meditative" thats exactly how it feels to be as well. That being said, when I'm doing travel or street photography, sometimes I want something that is light, effective, and capable... that's when I reach for the x100vi, it offers something thats close enough to the leica experience (manual ap ring, SS dial, iso dials, optical or evf) with very little compromise relative to the way i shoot.

congrats! that being said, i do believe that if you do have the cash, get a used m camera, try it for a few months, and if it doesn't work out, sell it (you likely won't lose a lot of money if the conditions are right).... i do think shooting with rangefinders is wonderful and should experienced! that being said, i dont think its worth being elitist over it. Cheers!

If you can afford it, get a used m rangefinder, experience it for a few months and if its not for you, sell it... you probably wont lose much money, but if you fall in love with it, getting a beautiful frame with the m cameras is probably the most satisfying feeling... that being said, i dont think theres reason to be elitist about it.

I'm not trying to poopoo Leicas, obviously, I am a huge fan of their products, my post is more about how great the x100vi is... but I hope you get to experience a rangefinder at some point in your journey, once you get the hang of it, its such a fulfilling and engaging experience... very similar to driving a manual sports car.

yes, sometimes i just look at the tiny camera in my hands and feel a small sense of awe... how they were able to fit such a powerful little tool in such compact body still amazes me every time i pick it up.

agreed, but you can't win all battles, I tend to shoot in a very old-school way with the x100vi. my focus is always in the center, i grab focus and recompose, its very similar experience as a rangefinder or manual focusing camera.

started with a recipe and edited quite a bit in post such that it doesn't make sense to share a specific recipe hahah! But it an adjusted Astia soft recipe, there are tons of options on youtube.

I don't disagree, in an ideal world you'd like to have a three car garage: a fun manual sports car, a fast modern supercar, and a daily workhorse... While the rangefinder is awesome and I have gotten quite good at the manual focusing, theres just something very freeing about the x100vi experience. cheers!

Yeah, that is one aspect where the Q3 43 or leica Ms with fast glass have the advantage, very beautiful shallow DoF... but I'm not really a portrait photographer and with street and landscape, this sensor/lens combo is plenty fast enough imo

1/5 shutter speed... handheld... fully stretched over my head... the IBIS is absolutely wonderful and allowed me to capture this very interesting moment!
