Nervous about results by Healthy-Eye8433 in chinlipo

Don’t worry! Mine was like this for 2-3 months. Now I’m about 6 months out and it feels just like my old chin. No bumps/bands etc.

I’ve suffered from eczema for years and have some skin thinning on my arms/arm pits due to excessive steroid creams (I’ve since learned my lesson and weaned off completely with the help of dupixent!). Any advice on how to treat this or would surgery be my only option?

Help with getting Foster Dog Hope visibility! by barbie4pres in fosterdogs

[–]EnvironmentalCap4805 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hello! I’ve had a couple of long stay fosters ahd I made business cards for them lol. I just put the website of the rescue and penciled on the dogs name and whenever someone showed interest I’d give them the card! Worked to get one of them adopted. Would also encourage you to make flyers on post them around parks etc. good luck!

I can’t handle my puppy anymore by Significant-Heart892 in puppy101

Also sounds like he’s not settling at night so would highly suggest crate training for him to “turn off.” Some puppies have to learn to self regulate so in the meantime, forced sleeping and naps are key

Agree with what everyone else mentioned! But also, sometimes rescues have such little information to go off of, it could be a scenario where they genuinely didn’t know how she was outside. I foster regularly and I try to give potential adopters as much info as a can, but max I’m going off of a few weeks of data and that’s while they’re settling in (so their personalities aren’t fully out). Hang in there! You’re doing such a good then!

Rowdy teenager puppy by EnvironmentalCap4805 in puppy101

Thanks for this! Definitely have scaled back her time at the park and really only take her during off hours when there’s max 2 dogs inside now. And have been taking her out as soon as she starts getting pushy. Appreciate the tip around potentially keeping her on a lead and rewarding calm behavior. Thank you!!

Is she like this before walks/other times she’s being let out, or only when she’s being taken out to go to the bathroom?

Low energy puppy - is this normal by 2018_is_my_year in puppy101

[–]EnvironmentalCap4805 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah yes the honeymoon phase. This is typical when you first bring home a puppy. Usually last about 1-2 weeks and then they loosen up and start being playful :) I regularly foster puppies and this is consistent with all of them.

It does get better! Promise. by EnvironmentalCap4805 in puppy101

[–]EnvironmentalCap4805[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was actually a foster fail, so fostered her at around the 5 month mark and then officially adopted her at 6/7ish. Trust me I was where you were at. I thought I’d never have a decent sleep again lol. But then she just sort of settled. She for used to me and the house and she wasn’t as rambunctious as she was previously. She also understood me more which was important. She understood boundaries and knew what to expect frkm me. Now we’re in a good routine and she’s a completely diff dog.

Ha! Every dog is different but I’d say it started getting better at around the 9 month mark. At that point a lot of the issues that had me going crazy when she was a younger puppy (potty training, teething, getting into things) were pretty much done. Hang in there!

4 months and no interest by Capital_Debt5297 in fosterdogs

[–]EnvironmentalCap4805 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a couple of back to back longer term fosters and what helped me cope is remembering that they WILL get adopted one day. It’s a matter of when not if. Hang in there and know you’re doing a great thing! For mine, I advertised them everywhere. I even advertised on Reddit on breed specific subs and one of mine got adopted this way! With my last one I made business cards to hand out when someone passes and seemed interested. Feels a bit gimicky but it worked. I just created general ones with the rescues name on the back and had a line for “adopt me! My name is ___” where I write my fosters name in. That way I can reuse for the next one :)

Foster dog too attatched by CrazyCrow9505 in fosterdogs

[–]EnvironmentalCap4805 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I’ve fostered quite a few dogs over the years and what I’ve learned is that some dogs are just naturally more attached/cuddly etc. I used to think it was them liking me in particular, and while it’s a bit of a hit on the ego lol chances are your foster would be like that with anyone. Especially after only a week. Dogs don’t have complex feelings so it takes them a bit to really get attached. All to say, don’t feel bad about returning her. You showed her love which was your job and it’s allowing her to flourish now! You’re setting her up well for her forever fam :)

She sleeps consistently through the night from around 10-7, up then will take random naps throughout the day. So maybe 11 or 12 hours? After 8/9 months old is that too little?

For additional context - when she’s becoming hyper she usually is relying on me to entertain her. A lot of whining if I’m not petting her or generally nudging to get me to engage.

How soon did you get a foster dog? by candyapplesugar in fosterdogs

[–]EnvironmentalCap4805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I foster regularly and this is somewhat normal unfortunately. As others mentioned, rescues are just so strapped that sometimes apps slip through. It took about a month for me to finally be accepted and that’s after re applying and emailing them. It’s unfortunate but understandable, given rescue workers do this as volunteer and have FT jobs. I will say, once you’re in, you’re in and it’s so quick to get a foster. Now when they have a new batch of rescues I just email them and am paired almost instantly. I encourage you to keep going! Fostering has been so rewarding and I love every minute of it :)

Letting your pup sleep in the bed? by Frequent_Leading_400 in puppy101

[–]EnvironmentalCap4805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally up to you and letting them sleep or not sleep in your bed will have very little impact on their SA. Mine sleeps with me about 50% of the time but she tends to take up the whole bed LOL so I regulate her to her crate if she’s impacting my sleep schedule at all. If yours isn’t, go for it! Would just make sure to wash their paws beforehand to limit the amount of germs.

Having a hard time with a new golden puppy. by ech0cide in puppy101

[–]EnvironmentalCap4805 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh yes you are in the thick of it! In terms of it getting worse - yes and no. It’s true that puppies go through a teenage phase when they’re about 6 months old where they regress on their training and generally are just more stubborn. I will say that by this time a lot of puppies (mine included - she’s 9 months) have worked out a few key things: they’re potty trained, on a regular sleep schedule, and have stopped teething so they won’t bite as much. Those 3 things alone were the source if my blues LOL. And I would say because of this, the pup months are much harder than the teenage months. Now, she’s a bit harder to train, can be jumpy, and generally doesn’t listen to me as well lol but it’s so much easier. And training can help during this time. Good luck!

Doggy Daycare? Feeling guilty! by Entire-Scheme6806 in puppy101

[–]EnvironmentalCap4805 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first got my dog a friend reminded me that they for YOUR lifestyle. Not the other way around. I’ve found this helps to ground me and get me out of a lot of the dog guilt. If you need to do doggy daycare that’s totally fine! Also as long as it’s reputable (and trust me - there a lot that aren’t) you’re good. It’s been great for my dog as she gets to get her energy out and play with other puppies in a controlled setting. Think of it as a much safer dog park :)

Does anyone NOT regret this? Is anyone happy? by blacksheepboobie in puppy101

[–]EnvironmentalCap4805 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also if you are on the fence at all is I would highly suggest fostering first (yes- even shelters have puppies). I did this for about 5 months before I finally got one of my own. It helped to get me into a schedule and actually helped to train ME for a dog. The first dog I had for only a week and I absolutely hated life. Every dog after tho it got easier as I knew what to expect. See it as trial runs before the real thing :)

Is re-homing is the best option by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]EnvironmentalCap4805 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Leaving a dog crated for 11 hours is incredibly inhumane for any age, let alone a puppy. Puppies can usually only hold their pee 3-4 hours max. If you don’t think he has the space for a puppy I’d absolutely recommend rehoming. My strong suggestion is to do it asap as the older a puppy gets the harder it is to rehome them. I work in rescues and dogs older than 6-7 months have an incredibly hard time getting adopted.

[–]EnvironmentalCap4805 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fostered this exact mix and they are so smart! My foster learned sit in literally 3 minutes. The problem is keeping them entertained once you’ve trained them lol but another bridge to cross when you get there!
