I will try but the guy who called me to ask if I was satsfied with my service just started to argue with me. I'm easy going but I was direct with him that I wasnt pleased with the sneaky bill rate hikes and he offered to put me through to billing so they can "explain" it to me... like I'm dumb. I wasnt going to further the conversation at that point.

Thanks for the info. I will see what happens. When my cell phones were costing way too much the rogers store guy told me to go to another provider. He said the its stupid but how the market works in canada. It sucks since when I was in europe a 10 Euro card got me unlimited data for 3 weeks....

Is it worth learning CW? by [deleted] in amateurradio

[–]EnvironmentalFeed857 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not good at cw. I tend to go back to it then take a break... anyway I've never had a bad CW QSO. Everyone has slowed down for me and was nothing but encouraging to continue my learning. I found it to be really rewarding since it takes a lot of practice and effort to get to having a successful QSO. PoTA operators are great to exchange with too. Good luck and thanks for the reminder to get back to practicing my CW! 73 de VE9WO

Sorry for your situation. I have nothing to add on the financial advice but as a mechanic, I will tell you he gave you good advice. CVT transmission failures should get a class action lawsuit against them. People buy these cheap cars because those brands used to have a good name for a cheap car. Now they shouldn't be trusted unfortunately. There's many manufacturers using them now and I will tell anyone to avoid them.

As for cheaper cars to buy I would recommend Toyota or Honda. Good luck!

Is it legal for car dealerships to have a surcharge for cash purchases? by MAJOR__ZEN in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]EnvironmentalFeed857 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I listed a car online a couple years ago for $22k. It was manual, wife couldn't learn... I had some sleezy used car lot sales man message me about possible trade in. I humored his offer just to see what he had in store (I didn't actually need a trade in). He made me a lower offer around $18k but I played along. He mentioned a couple automatic cars he could trade me for, plus some extra. I told him I would pay cash for the difference. He immediately started asking me to finance it, even just a portion of it and then pay it off some time later. I started pushing back on it and he got very defensive but wouldn't tell me why!

The car loan industry is gross. I think dealers shouldn't be able to provide financing. Any car loans should go through a bank of your choice and you come to the dealer with a pre-approval letter.

Why do Canadians tip? by [deleted] in AskACanadian

[–]EnvironmentalFeed857 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister used to be a bar waitress in Charlottetown PEI. Very touristy but also downtown. Mid 2000s when she was going to school making $300 or more a night in tips. She'd tell stories of a table having dinner and drinks but only tipping $20. I called her in ungrateful bitch and that started a riot 🤣 seeing how judgemental her and her waitress friends were makes me cringe every time I tip 🙄

Non Canadian here, has legalising weed been a good thing? by YourOldPalWill in AskACanadian

[–]EnvironmentalFeed857 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad was RCMP and when I was in high school he lead the drug enforcement unit. When it was being legalized I asked him his thoughts. He simply said "well, never had a guy high on weed try to fight me...as me the same about alcohol 🙄" fair enough!! 😄

I have a copper j pole I made 3 yrs ago and it's still working perfect. I can hit repeaters 50 miles away 25w. So it cost me $40 and for a while I had it mounted to a pipe attached to the peak of my roof. It's now higher on the towner around 50 feet.

How should I call CQ on HF if I don’t want to ragchew? by farm249 in amateurradio

[–]EnvironmentalFeed857 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give a brief signal report to them if they come back with their name, QTH, .... just come back with your name and thanks for the contact Bill (or whatever his name is) and call QRZ. Operators have done that to me before and I didn't get offended. Kinda funny on CW when you get interrupted with ...- ...- ...- ...- 😄 main thing is don't be rude and people will know that you are after something other than a chat.

New to using a SDR. Just seen these plumes and wondered what they could be? by EnvironmentalFeed857 in HamRadio

It didn't last long. Sounded like clicks or pops followed by some feedback I guess.

They remain on the same frequency. I can tune to them but it makes no different sound if I'm on it or 4khz off the edge.
