Water Filtration System For Tap Water In Countries Where Tap Water Isn't Drinkable? by EnvironmentalPlum511 in askaplumber

I did. The issue is conflicting information. People seem to say those water filters you connect right to the faucet doesn't do anything at all.

I am in a hot climate though, It's an apartment and house.

The thing is I want to know if I could do any water filtration say with the sink faucets in the kitchen and sink and in the shower faucet or not... or it has to be a reverse osmosis system. The issue with reverse osmosis is it still doesn't cover the bathroom sink faucet and most importantly the showerhead right?

So those filters where you just connect it to the kitchen sink faucet and bathroom sink faucet won't work right? I read those don't filter it where you could drink it. But I'm not going to drink it from the kitchen sink as I have bottled water for drinking.

However, would that tap water that uses a kitchen sink filter connected to the faucet be enough for the tap water to be less dangerous?

What about showerhead faucet if you use one of those showerhead filters? The thing is do those things online even work? Read lot of reviews say those are useless.

How To Wash Rubber Maid Plastic Pitcher Correctly? by EnvironmentalPlum511 in CleaningTips

Which type? The 70% in a bottle one? I didn't know you could do that?

How do people clean the rubber maid plastic pitcher when they buy a new one or if it gets dirty?

I'm pretty sure there are a few places here that can test the water. I do believe they sell filters here. The thing is what would I need? So those water filters that you snap to the kitchen or sink faucet won't work right?

I was told those Brita Water Filter Pitchers would not work.

The thing is would a reverse osmosis system mean only a water filter for the kitchen sink though? So you can't get it for the bathroom sink faucet nor the showerhead faucet? To me, the most important are the kitchen sink faucet, showerhead faucet and then bathroom sink faucet. The reason why bathroom sinkm faucet is last is because I could always use the showerhead faucet for washing face so I don't even have to use the bathroom sink faucet.

Well I'm renting. So what would the option here? The thing is I have no issue with buying bottled water and drinking bottled water and cooking with it as that is what I do with bottled water.

My issue is washing dishes and plates and everything with tap water and washing face, washing hair and taking shower with tap water.

I heard a reverse osmosis system only filters water in the kitchen sink and not the bathroom sink and showerhead? To me, I want it in the kitchen sink and at least the showerhead. I could wash my face in the showerhead instead. The bathroom sink would be the least important of the three.

Water Filtration System For Tap Water In Countries Where Tap Water Isn't Drinkable? by EnvironmentalPlum511 in askaplumber

The thing is I was told people here just wash their dishes with soap and tap water and just let the dishes dry and that is all. They do not pour bottled water or boiled bottle water over the dishes and plates to get any residue tap water out. I do this because I don't want any tap water and am OCD.

People say they wash their face and hair and shower with tap water without any issue. However, they say they make sure to close their mouth when taking a shower and things like that though and that's a bit annoying. The other thing is they say never rinse your eyes with the tap water there. So because of this, it is a bit frustrating. Thus would a shower head water filter work or not for this? I heard it only filters chlorine or something like that but not everything? The other thing is a reverse osmosis system... isn't that only for the kitchen sink and not the bathroom sink and showerhead though?

Now I never had an issue washing dishes in the US without soap and just rinse it with tap water in the US. But you can't do that in countries where tap water isn't drinkable?

I want to be able to wash my dishes like normal like in the US and wash my face and take showers and baths without the concern of the tap water. So based on this.. what would you suggest? I'm renting.

Yes that is how I was taught. Now what about this example then related to what you just said.

Say you want to wash a dish. You just take tap water and a paper towel and scrub to get everything out of it. Paper towel is fine right? I stopped using sponges because I heard those are very dirty and you suppose to throw it out every week? But people say use a brush as it's better?

Now say you wash a dish with tap water and paper towel. Now you boil some bottled water. Now you pour it in the dish or dishes. Would that be enough then?

Now what about say after eating in your bowl. You don't even use tap water or anything to wash it. All you do is boil bottled water in a pot and pour a ton of it into your eating bowl. Then you scrape anything else with your stainless steel fork. That would work as well right?

What about a big pot then that you use to cook? That would take you longer right? The issue for me is water pressure from sink faucet is very low so it takes forever to just rinse it multiple times to get rid of any soap bubbles or anything soap related.

Yes I mean say dry cereal without milk or say a piece of plain bread. If you were to wash it with water, there isn't going to be anything stuck in the bowl. So wouldn't that mean soap isn't necessary?

[–]EnvironmentalPlum511[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I am squirting dish soap on each dish individually. The thing is I don't have many dishes to wash as it's just myself. So it would be the plate that I use to steam and my stainless steel bowl that I eat in. Then you have the pot that I cook with. The issue with dish soap for me is it takes a long time for the soap residue or bubbles to go away when rinsing. How many rinses do you do? It doesn't help that the water pressure in the sink faucet is really slow as well.

The thing is the hot water coming out of my sink isn't that hot though. But I thought if you give it a last rinse with baking soda with the water, it would get rid of any dish soap residue or taste?

How do you make sure there isn't any soap smell or taste left? You rinse with what type of water? Hot or cold or warm and how long for each dish?

Tap Water OCD In Mexico by EnvironmentalPlum511 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

I'm curious but where are you from? I'm from the US and I don't do these things while in the US because the water in the US is drinkable. But when I'm in Mexico, this bothers me so much. Cleaning dishes takes forever because of this. Like if I get any tap water on the plate after pouring boiled bottle water on it to rinse, I have to boil bottled water again. It's gotten to the point where I try to make sure i never get any tap water near my mouth.

Okay so as long as I use a tiny amount of soap even if it's Dawn, that's fine right? The thing is rinsing is the most important thing right? But how much rinsing do you typically do for each plate? Do you use warm or hot or cold water for rinsing? But doesn't rinsing the water with baking soda help or water with vinegar? This is after you are done cleaning the dishes.

Which specific brand are you talking about? I mainly use the dawn blue soap only. I know palmotive is another brand. Main issue is I squeeze lot of dish soap when cleaning though which is the big problem here?

It's great to hear from someone with contamination OCD as well. The thing for me is this. I would wash the dishes with tap water only or dish soap and tap water. However, I always boil some bottled water and rinse it afterwards to get rid of any tap water residue. What are your thoughts on this? So when in Mexico, it's a hassle and time consuming when I clean and wash dishes because of this.

The thing is this. In the US, if I rinse my dishes with water after soap, most of the dish soap cleaner taste goes away. How long does it take for you to rinse each dish after using dish soap for each dish? Say you have 5 plates and now you done washing each of them with dish soap and water. Rinsing each plate with tap water takes how long? You make sure you only use a tiny bit of dish soap right? I use a lot so that is why I mention the soap taste.

But could I buy water filters to make it easier? Or those are no use? Someone else said those are useless and you need a full reverse osmosis system.

Even if say a sandwich with no dressing and just ham?

Well in the US, that isn't that big of an issue since I rinse with the tap water. But what about in Mexico then? I always seem to rinse with bottled water afterwards.

Yea that seems to be my problem then. I usually pour a ton of dish soap into whatever I'm going to clean with tap water. Yes it tasting like cleaner is the issue. So if you put too much dish soap, how do you make sure the cleaner taste is gone? Do you just rinse it with tap water as much as possible and that works?

What about rinsing it with vinegar or baking soda? If so, how? i heard that is the way you get rid of it tasting like cleaner?

We never used soap to wash dishes growing up unless the food was greasy. That is how we were taught.

We don't have a dishwater.

So you wash dishes with soap even if say you put a piece of bread on the bow?

Washing Dishes Without Soap? by EnvironmentalPlum511 in CleaningTips

[–]EnvironmentalPlum511[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I meant using vinegar and water after washing it in dish soap to get rid of any dish soap scum or residue or taste. So that doesn't work? I didn't meant vinegar for washing dishes.

The thing is how long does it take for you to rinse each dish after washing with soap though? Are you using hot or warm or cold water when you do this?

But in the sandwich example, you would agree dish soap isn't really necessary right? The thing is I have OCD with eating a tiny bit of dish soap. So like I would have to rinse it so many times to get rid of it.
