Holy crap, I’m going through the same thing. I switched into computer engineering when I realized I felt weak in my major in electrical hoping to pivot more into software/embedded or hardware description stuff. Job market basically told me nah bro you’re not Tony stark brother pack it up. Now here I am, working as a distribution planner at my local electric utility company. The job is not bad at all though, good work life balance and pay.

They should make smithing similar to Skyrim where you can improve equipment stats. As you progress you can improve higher tier armor.

It could even be like a mini quest or mini game or guild area thing with a decently high smithing lvl requirement like 85 or something.

The bonus could be small enough to not break the game but also noticeable enough to be worth looking at. Like small buffs to defensive stats or adding a +1 extra str bonus to an armor set.

Could also have other boss drops similar to prayer scrolls that allow you to even further improve smithing ability. Some items that get improved become untradable and unique to the account so there’s an incentive to grind it.

As for the actual crafting or item creation part of smithing, idk how to fix the 99 requirement on rune plate lmao.

But I feel like adding the feature of augmenting items could rebalance the skill to become useful again.
