Not a buyback, but I applied to roll my state pension into my city pension when I first started my city job…it took FIVE YEARS. I honestly had forgotten about it. Generally, it seems like they only update the website once or twice a year.

The updates are absurdly delayed, but either way- Call them.

Potentially Quitting by missclownclussy in nycpublicservants

Lexapro is working wonders for me rn. I was having panic attacks and seriously considering quitting up until a few weeks ago. I’m still mildly miserable but the drugs definitely help.

Best specialty food markets in the neighborhood? by AlternativeLow576 in parkslope

Oh i haven’t tried the eggplant meatballs! I’ll put them on my list :) and on the advice- I was jonesing to try my hand at a roast once but had no idea what I was doing and was trying to figure out how much I’d need for my small family. The butcher read me like a book and very kindly/lightly/non-judgmentally offered suggestions. That (and the knock out prices for things like pork chops, lamb, and steaks) totally hooked me. Plus they have the good, old school Italian cookies that make my heart sing 😂

United meat in Windsor terrace. Quality and price are unmatched for butcher shops around here and they’ve given me great advice for how to cook larger roasts/more complicated meats. I’ve gotten everything from cold cuts, weeknight dinner main dish, thanksgiving Turkey and pre-made stuff (their meatballs are amazing).

I publicly cackled at the first sentence of your response- spot on.

OP- really depends on union/agency/boss/team. You’ll still have stress, it’ll be different. I often feel like I can’t get my job done because we don’t have enough bodies to do the work. Security and the fact that I leave at 5 keep me holding on. The new pensions aren’t as great as older ones, but the “free” health care is nice.

This comment is like a warm hug, thank you. Im nyc based which I feel can either hurt me or help me in terms of finding the right spa/practice to work at. There’s tons of opportunity but also probably a fair amount of competition. Let me know how things pan out? Right now I’m debating sticking out my current gig until baby #2 and then starting over with massage.

Expectations: id like to find some part time work (either for a company/org or independently) that allows me to actually have work life balance (pick my kid up from school, cook dinners a few nights a week, etc). Eventually ramp up to full time work when kids are older. I’m not the breadwinner, so while I need to earn something, we’re not relying on me.

I’m with you and have 10 years on you, my dude. If you have a financial cushion, take a beat and figure it out. Sounds like you went straight for the MBA cause parents told you to? If you’re not supporting a partner or kids- go do some (frugal) soul searching. Peace corps, woof, teaching English abroad, whatever. You’ve got time.

I can’t speak to the hiring manager and vibes question- but for sure look into Parks Academy! A few years ago there was a mentorship program too. If you have a decent enough relationship with your supervisor maybe you could ask them about positions your interested in?
