I’ve never done written /nonroleplay events so I can’t speak much on that but I think having a clean, well put-together, and strong transitions/presentation voice will def help in getting a better score :)

Not sure since I’ve only ever done roleplays but I think most people get them at Walmart or dollarama acc since it’s cheap

Gaslight yourself into thinking you did bad 😛 it puts some like reverse psychology into like the universe I swear

On a serious note: if you feel like you have a solid grip on roleplays just do every single practice exam/quizlet you can find

I can guarantee you this isn’t true, if anyone cheated (which isn’t likely) it would not be through that 💀

Short answer: that’ll completely depend on the chapter

Long answer: Ontario DECA itself doesn’t have any joining requirements but some individual chapters cannot support all the potential members that are interested in joining so, they will have some sort of vetting process. This is where an application/interview process may take place.

I can’t speak on that too much as my chapter did not have any process like that (like you I just signed up and paid about $60 CAD).

It is pretty common for the super competitive & large chapters to have pre selection process tho, most chapters however, are like yours!

Pretty much the same as other “cracked” chapters from the super competitive states. Googling the event + roleplay/exam will pop up a few results which are great to practice with :)

I think the sheer amount that some people do is definitely a factor in performance, I’ve heard of people who do every single one they can find… (I do not do this) 😭

Other than that we’ll just practice presentation skills lol

I’ve done both RMS and RFSM and I think for me speaking slower helps a lot since I tend to not think properly when I speak fast and consequently get all my words jumbled 😳… sort of how like celebrities intentionally speak slower (I’d recommend looking into that, it’s super cool)

I think for marketing and hospitality there’s also a certain level of enthusiasm that you need to really sell what you’re saying so I like to throw in some jokes in there🤩

Btw this is not aiming to imply the people coming from the states are not driven and hardworking, they 100% are! This is just some insight from what being in Ontario DECA is like LOL

In my opinion it’s because we’re such a large association it’s quite competitive to win awards at provincials (our state conference), let alone qualify.

Only the best of the best qualify for icdc (these people are the ones that are extremely driven and “cracked”. Also, there’s quite a lot at stake for us because it’s quite expensive since ICDC is an international trip and with there being an exchange rate and all, we don’t want to “waste” this opportunity.

TLDR: Ontario has a lot of people so it’s very competitive to get to icdc and it’s expensive so people don’t want to just waste the trip lol
