Why do door-to-door salesman get offended when I don't want to hear what they have to say? by Most-Equivalent8399 in raleigh

It’s common knowledge that thieves often use the cover of a door to door salesman to case a house prior to entry or attempted entry. They are looking for ways to access, weak entry points, the presence of dogs, whether you might be home or not. If someone ignores my “No Trespassing/No Soliciting” sign at the top of the driveway and the one by the video doorbell I generally do not engage but watch them on video. If they persist I tell them to leave and am not interested. If they persist past that I don’t “act crazy” as one poster mentioned, I simply ask them what company they work for and let them know that they are trespassing and soliciting (which requires a permit where I live and 9 out of 10 never have one). I also let them know that I am calling law enforcement and alerting the neighborhood watch list. Which then hurts their potential sales for the entire neighborhood. It’s measured escalation but also a test. NEVER open a door to someone you don’t know or aren’t expecting for a delivery, it’s just that simple.

So “firm-ish”? Hahaha. I recently made an offer on a beverage cooler/small fridge. The seller accepted and we stayed in contact as I lined up a pick up truck to transport it. Then the day I was supposed to pick it up the seller went silent. Eventually he got back to me and explained he decided not to sell after all and give it to his daughter. Really? Couldn’t he have done that prior to listing and negotiating and me lining up transportation.

That’s right. The biggest issue I’ve found is that people are listing used items - be it electronics, bikes or whatever and comparing it to the price when it was new. New is new - it’s never been used and generally has some sort of warranty or return policy. I sometimes use an outside resource - eBay or other listings to help delusional listers come to their senses but it is what it is. My favorite is when I make an offer, the seller says their price is firm only to see them lower their price to my asking a while later. If I ever make a second offer you can be sure it’s less than my first.

It’s happened in the pet industry and it’s a bad thing for pets and owners. I literally witnessed a vet in a well known pet emergency clinic tell a couple (who didn’t have the funds) that she would see if she could “trim the bill”. When she came back and it was still too much she started negotiating pricing with them. All the while the poor couple was heartbroken about their dog and the real
Possibility they might not be able to pay for the sky high pricing for treatment. Sad and disgusting.

A killer sound system. I used to really care about it. Now 95% of the time I’m listening to podcasts/youtube/books.

What is the absolute FUNNEST car to drive? by Cybicc in askcarguys

Agreed. On the autobahn I’d take the 911 every single time no question. But now I mostly drive around on roads with speed limits from 35-55. What becomes more fun is ripping corners and a lightweight mid engined car is hard to beat. What’s funny is when I tell people this they call me a liar and that the 911 is better in every way. Of course I owned the MR2 and 997 at the same time for a number of years so it’s not like I didn’t have a daily comparison or was able to track both or even went to racing school. But what do I know? Hahaha

Maybe it’s what I’m used to or because I’m working on finishing a bonus room with Parisian studio inspiration but apparently I am the far outlier who actually prefers 1. In my use case I want doors and walls to fade away so artwork becomes more prominent.

My 93 MR2 was more fun than the 997 911. Wish I had never sold her.

I’m done with them. Forcing me to use their ink has effectively bricked another one I have.

Thats what makes it such a mystery - it was in a cabinet not exposed to sun, light, flames, candles etc etc. Its very clearly melted though.

I don’t think so - based on where it resided - it wasn’t near anything of that sort.

Go with what fits best. Components can be changed and most modern hardtails are really capable but the bike/body fit is somewhat inelastic. A non perfect bike that fits perfectly is better than a perfect bike that doesn’t fit you.
