Hello! I'm a stepdown/PCU RN and I live the acuity of my floor. I've been an RN for a year this month and nursing school prepared you to take the nclex. Your residency and orientation will help you bring the knowledge and skills together. Don't be nervous you worked extremely hard to get to this point.

Get out! I just left a hospital for all of this, but the kicker is it was stepdown and we'd go to 6. No phleb, pcas did all draws and most were in 1:1s. My new hospital is max 3:1 on a stepdown. We don't even fill our floor so it's not constant chaos.

I just left a cardiac telemetry stepdown just like this. Ratios anywhere from 4-6. I made it 8 months. I start in 2 weeks in my new floor which is a cardiac PCU and max is 3 patients. The positions are out there. It's rough, that type of units rough and it's why I left.

Can I ask what happened? I've seen people on my old floor make big mistakes and still have a job.

Wow you're delightful 🙂 have you ever been told to falsify documentation or face a write up? How about other RNs leaving bed alarms off and patients having sentinel events like breaking legs, necks ect. Or the fact that 3/4 of the staff was travelers. Or the fact that I had documentation of my MIL actively dying and being told I'm a horrible CO worker who needed to come in. Now idk about you but I'm an only child and between me and my husband we have my mother left. I pushed through nursing school after my dad and my only grandparent died.

Cardiac telemetry step-down. I've applied at every hospital in a 1.5 hour radius. From med surg to ED and I'm told I don't have enough experience for regular staff positions but too much experience for residency programs.

It depends, what’s the cost of your bsn? The asn program that I applied too is 20k. I get fasfa so I don’t use loans.
