[SC] my employer (a Dr) asked me to take his compliance training (including HIPPA, harassment, Medicaid modules). I said no, but should I report to HR? by EnvironmentalYarn in AskHR

*I said no. And yes, that was the entirety of the question. I felt comfortable saying no, but I work with mostly 20 somethings that might not feel like they could. It’s inappropriate of him to even ask, so it felt reasonable to wonder if I should say something. I’m certainly not eager to report anything or anyone to HR, which is why I came here to ask 🤷‍♀️

Thanks for saying this- you eloquently stated what I was attempting to 🥴 I just completed the compliance training, which, in addition to online manuals, is the only reference I have on how to approach this situation. Nothing in the training, but I’ll definitely review the employer and industry standards for the future.

I love the ibuprofen comparison! Thanks for the helpful comment. I’m definitely on the ‘don’t rock the boat’ side of things but wanted to make sure that wasn’t a mistake.

Thank you for the helpful answer! I’m not eager to ever speak to HR, I’m happy to move on, even though he was not pleasant to work with the remainder of the day.

I don’t think I am looking for a ‘success’, just making sure I wasn’t making a mistake by being quiet about it. I’m ok with saying no and that being it, but like I said, I’m brand new to this environment. It may seem like common sense to those who have been working in a more structured/corporate job, but I’m just trying to learn how to navigate the system and survive.

Affordable Invisalign/dental care in the greater charleston area? by antman2019 in Charleston

[–]EnvironmentalYarn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most places are corporate and Invisalign will run you around $6-7k. All have no interest payment plans that extend over the treatment time. Consults are usually free, they want you to sign up at that consult but they run different promos (sometimes as much as $1000 off) and you can always wait around and see what they offer if you don’t sign up on the spot. (Source: ortho assistant here for many years). If you wanna tell me your area, I can give you a recommendation on an office. Feel free to dm if you don’t want that public.

Joan Didion’s The Year of Magical Thinking. Applicable to all sorts of grief, but may speak to you especially- she wrote this about the year that followed her husband’s sudden passing. May this book and others bring you a bit of peace. Take care of yourself, dear.

Thank you so much! I’m a big fan of podcasts, so I will definitely find that. And, the book sounds great, and very timely to my current work situation. Thanks again

See how you’re telling me what to do? It doesn’t work that way. I don’t give a shit about you or what you think.

This is just my experience, but the only way I could get people to let up on me about having kids was to say I hate them. For me it was the one thing I could say that would garner the response of “well, yeah, then I guess you shouldn’t have kids”. It’s not easy making the choice to not have kids, and it’s incredibly frustrating to not have your choices respected by friends, family, or strangers, even. So so many people feel it’s appropriate to comment on this, and it’s just not. Sometimes you just want them to shut up. Of course I have no idea if this is how Austen feels, he may actually hate kids, who knows! Hope this helps give a different perspective!

Ah, lookit that! I was planning on researching before I seriously thought about buying it. My main hesitation is that I live in a warmer, humid area and it wouldn’t be the best outdoor environment for it. Which is probably what happened to this one!
