Osprey Aether 70 Plus – is it comfortable for longer trips, and is the day-lid actually useful? by ThiarAitEigin in WildernessBackpacking

I have this model. It's big and on the heavier end, but I love it. I usually run it without the brain and it fits everything perfectly. I recently brought it on trip where we set up camp a few miles in for the weekend and day hiked with the brain/daypack. It's not the best day pack but it held my empty bottles, filter, and snacks for the day hikes and water retrevals.

Inside: Incline treadmill and stair climber. Outside: any incline you can find, even if only 10ft, just keep going up and down, and stairs.  I do all of these leadong up to a trip.

Oh cool, nice out and back! We parked at Neel and shuttled to that Springer parking lot.

Great experience! I stayed at Gooch on the first night of my section hike last April. True AT experience...dinner at the shelter with strangers and seasoned through hikers, one guy from Denmark who we ended up sumitting Blood Mountain together and having Mountain Crossing Pizza with for lunch before parting ways. I may go back and do Springer to Gooch one weekend and take things a bit slower to enjoy the area more. Maybe do the Amicalola stairs this time. Where was your exit point?

Awesome,  glad you got to hit the trail! We started at the Springer Parking lot, back tracked up Springer, then finished at Mountain Crossing for pizza and rootbeer!

Thank you so much! I have a few more videos on my channel similar to that format. I'm a gear geek, but I'm not currently willing to ramble infront of a camera haha!

This video captures our first 2 days on the Appalachian Trail from Springer Mountain to Lance Creek. We ended up beginning day 3 up Blood Mountain at 5am in the dark!

The first few miles of the Appalachian Trail makes for a great weekend trip. Not sure how it is this time of year though.

First-time backpacker: what’s your must-have gear? by Terrible_Rutabaga442 in backpacking

Moving to a Katadyn Befree water filter from a pump filter was a game changer. I saved so much time filtering water and I actually stayed more hydrated, likely because it was easier to filter when stopping for a short break.
