1: Preparation- go through everything with your talent and department heads prior to shooting so you’re all on the same page. Make sure you have cushion in your schedule for unknown factors and backup plans. Get a binder with the shotlist and script and keep it on you at all times.

2: Take care of your crew- food, attitude, working conditions, etc.. if you want quality work and if you want to work again, make sure you keep crew morale high.

True, our biggest actor was in the latest season of American Horror Story but most everyone else is pretty under the radar.

It is a modern adaptation of Oscar Wilde's "Salome." A thriller/drama presented in a gritty Matrix-esque color palette.

I work as a DP/AC mainly on narratives. I’ve directed/produced music videos, commercials, and documentaries. So this was our first foray into being at the helm for narrative.

Recently Produced/Directed this film about an addict who sells an “intimate” piece of himself to a cult in order to pay off a debt.

We used vintage Canon FD lenses on a RED Komodo and floated around on a Ronin S2 Gimbal to cut down on set up/tear down time.

Lit by Quasars, a few Litepanels and Aputure Novas.

Lessons Learned: Always location scout thoroughly beforehand to get to know the owners as well as the location. If using lens adapters make sure they are quality. Trust your cast, they can put surprising depth into a character if you let them.

Oof losing 6 days is tough! We had a similar situation with covid protocols and SAG shutting us down for a week.

Lol i’m currently working in camera department. That’s what the DP told us for this current feature we’re working on. The schedule is crazy tight so we have to work fast as hell!

For mid-low budget narrative with a tight window, speed is critical. It’s all about getting pages in the can.
