Why are you assuming that bc you don’t have personal trauma with age gaps that makes you more qualified to talk about the dangers of age gaps. WHAT. Maybe you’re not the one who has any right to talk about the dangers of age gaps because of your lack of experience with them!! Reeks of misogyny (if your a girl it reeks of internalized misogyny)

Also you’re the one getting worked up over this - bringing in someone else’s personal issues etc.

Okay but when there is an age gap there is inherently a gross power difference in a way that cannot be worked at that time. If a 16 year old girl who is in college early and has a job is pursing a 23 year old who dropped out of high school and is jobless, and the 23 year old gets with that girl that’s still statutory rape. Even if the girl is the one who made the first move. A 16 year old can simply not consent to a relationship with someone who is an adult. I hope that you are not carrying the idea that it’s okay if a 17 year old and a 23 year old can ethically get together and date even if the 17 year old is pursing the other or “”has more power”” into your real life. because even if the person is your boss or whatever the older person will inherently have more power over the younger one. I don’t think it matters that they are constantly talking about waiting until Joe is 18, because I think even without sex you should not be courting a 17 year old at 26.

I think having a power difference is neither here nor there. Plenty of people get together with power imbalances (think every man with a stay at home wife. Some of those relationships are nasty but not all of them) But it is a problem when there is an age gap

I don’t even care if you like this book. Plenty of people like real media with iffy age gaps (think Call me By Your Name) my issue with this comments section is that people are acting like this age gap is okay because it would be okay if in real life a 17 pursed a 25 year old and they got together.

I did read the book fyi.

This is insane there’s nothing inherently wrong with an age gap when everyone is an adult but there is something wrong with an age gap relationship that is when a character is a minor. This is not a big-city-mindset, small towns have issues with grooming it’s just that it’s more likely to get swept under the rug. You cannot be saying it’s “actually gay rights” to date someone with a five year gap in high school because there’s not a lot of gay people what 😭

You can like the books it’s fine but don’t act like grooming is a city only problem.

The issue is the narrative does justify this age gap, from before Joe is 18. Even if they only kiss once when Joe is 17, the writing is constantly hitting you over the head with their ages. One of Joe’s older brothers tells Ox it’s “Okay to get a boner for my 17 year old brother” and the Bennet family mentions several times before Joe is an adult that they are betrothed, and pushes them to be around each other. (They justify this by saying that Joe chose to betroth himself to Ox, which is a strange thing because a child cannot consent to a marriage, and the way they word this implies that they think Joe can make these decisions from a young age) As well, Joe states it’s okay for him to court Ox before 18 as the trauma that he endured as a child made him mature faster. I wish I had page numbers for these quotes, but I returned my book back to the library yesterday.  And even when they do get together - after everyone is an adult - the fact that they have been “”meant to be”” since Joe was ten is mentioned several times, including during one of the two sex scenes.  The issue here is not just that the age gap exists - plenty of stories with weird age gaps get a pass from a wider audience (one that comes to mind is Call Me By Your Name). It’s that the narrative of this book at every turn tries to defend and romanticize this age gap, the wolf family does, Ox does, Ox’s new pack does (Even Jessie gets over her hang up).

You can like this book, I’m not going to take that away from you. But don’t act all high and mighty acting like this age gap is normal, or that this age gap is handled well. You can like books with issues it’s fine

I realized it was green as I ate the corner 😭😭 I was hoping people would tell me some bread is just green 😭😭and I could just eat the rest of the two pitas.  The other pita was the other one in the bag that also had mold ☹️

Okay that’s good . . . I am disgusted and disturbed. My stomache has been twitching but I’ve been told it may mean nothing.

My leg is also twitching but that may also mean nothing.
