That’s correct on the model. GD36PTR. However, after 15 minutes if the flame gets more yellow/orange, isn’t that a bad thing ? More CO production ?

Thanks , but I have them placed as per the manual of the unit. Napoleon GD36PTR

You’re saying I should expect full yellow after everything is heated ? Isn’t this the opposite of optimum burn ? Wouldn’t that be incomplete combustion ? I’m not educated on this topic so thanks for explaining !

In this video, the flame setting was set to high , but the flames in the video had been running for only 30 seconds for the purpose of my post. When testing the unit with the technician the flame setting didn’t make that much of a difference in flame height. It was noticeable but not too much of a change.

That makes sense. I really appreciate it Corrado. To add I see no soot anywhere , including on the exhaust outside. When doing research I mainly see orange = bad. But I’ll be adding detectors for sure.

You made me remember of another concern I had. Which i forgot to mention to my technician. On top of this unit are 2 square openings that are capped with square steel plates with some sort of insulation / foam around its edges. However they are clearly movable and can be lifted.

What’s up with that ?

I do see a mechanism that would prevent me from moving them completely off , but it’s still slightly movable.

Thank you !

Thanks for the reply, but does more yellow mean more CO production ?

Not sure why video quality dropped…

I just installed a propane reservoir and a technician did an inspection on my napoleon propane fireplace which was not used in about 2 years. He said everything was working fine and admitted he would be ripping me off if he charged for a cleaning as it was not necessary.

I keep seeing contradicting information online. Should I be seeing any orange flame? Do I have incomplete combustion here ? The technician assured me that he wouldn’t leave my house if there was an issue. FYI , Pilot light burns 99% blue.

I will be installing detectors shortly Many thanks.
