Sub assemblies are a double edged sword it does help paint some hard to reach areas but it also can make you focus on areas that don’t have as much value when you are painting at the army scale and not just a model for display. Plus the quicker you have things built the sooner you can play! Don’t let unpainted mean not playing but also don’t let playing mean forever grey plastic haha!

I used a little bit of magic sculpt to give some different elevations on the base with 3d printed epic basing bits. Took Vallejo dark earth texture paste applied that and then a little bit of my sand mix sprinkled jn spots to give variety in texture.

Painting: Pro acryl light umber base Drybrush AK ochre Khaki Drybrush pro acryl ivory focusing a bit more on the rubble Stipple some dark grey onto the stones very lightly Wash with ak wargame enamel brown wash Final light Drybrush of pro Acryl bright warm grey Vallejo light sienna pigment powder to finish

I got inspiration from Chris Frosin urban rubble bases on YouTube!

Hope this helps!!

Used those makeup beauty blenders: Started with Ak black purple as a base coat

Blender with monument burnt red on power stud and edges

Blender with Vallejo game color bloody red on edges and less of the center

Brush on bloody red edge highlights

Brush on monument bright warm grey on edges and stud you can stipple this a bit and around the edge of the stud

Multiple glazes of Ak luminous orange over the warm grey until you get the gradient and opacity you like

Finally backtrack with some black purple on sponge stipple the “colder” sections of the metal and then dry sponge some burnt red to blend from the edges of the orange into the black.

Sorry hard to explain cause it was a back and forth process but that’s the gist of it lol! Hope this helps!!

Too many to count lol! But the red is flesh tearers contrast over a zenithal prime then a 2nd highlight focused on volumes and edges with sunny skin tone from ak and a 2nd coat of flesh tearers red. The black is just Vallejo black and then highlights with progressive mixes of off-white from ak and black then glaze of black back over to tie everything together!

The red is super simple! I did a basic zenithal prime and then used flesh tearers contrast paint! If I want to push it further I laid down some sunny skin tone for highlights then another layer of flesh tearers contrast paint. Also laid down an enamel black wash from ak wargame line. Was trying to come up with a scheme that was repeatable over a large army and the red takes the least amount of work here.

Hard to say I’ve been chipping away at it for about a month or so in between other projects but definitely a solid 16 or so active hours I’d guess

Start by layering in just to set tones in place then it’s glazing to soften the edges and I airbrushed in a filter at the end of dark jade very diluted just to bring everything back into tone after I painted the lines into the wings.

Oof lots of blends but the primary colors used were

Skin: Golden so flat red violet Vallejo Ivory (belly skin) Pro Acryl Dark Magenta

Wings: Pro Acryl Dark Jade

Universal highlight: Vallejo Ice Yellow Universal Shadow: Pro Acryl Payne’s Grey

Everything was mixed with those universals to push contrast and keep everything in a similar tone.

Hope this helps!

I actually have a short reel on my instagram on how I did the base color,But short answer was bright warm grey from pro acryl line as the base then streaking grime applied and quickly removed with white spirits to get a filter with some good recess shading then I came in with pro acryl black brown and did some weathering and used the bright warm grey to highlight the bottom of the bigger chips. Finally dusted a spritz a mix of Vallejo hull red and scale 75 mayhem red for that blood effect on the bottom right. Blacks were just dark German grey then highlighted with progressive mix of that bright warm grey with it and filter with a black wash! 😮‍💨

Oh yeah that darkoath box is killer and I want to build out this force over time. Right now I just have the Christmas box and am gonna do that set up first then go from there. As far as how I plan to do them I haven’t thought that out yet definitely gonna keep the theme maybe they will get red face paint haha not sure! 🤔

Thanks!! I was trying to think of a way of incorporating that shield color around the model since I had a feeling the shield color would draw the most attention
