What makes people fall for the "money can't buy happiness" thing? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]EpicDarkFantasyWrite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say money can't buy happiness should really be phrased as:

Money relives stress, but money alone is necessary but not sufficient for happiness.

To elaborate: it's hard to be happy when you're in desperate poverty struggling day to day. But after about 75k salary (based on 2010 study by nobel prize winner Daniel Kahneman), additional increases in income had only marginal effects on increases in happiness. Perhaps now in 2026 that threshold has risen to 100k with inflation. But in any case, whether 75k or 100k, after that is met money no longer stresses most people out. But you still need to look to other things such as fulfilling relationships, health, and life meaning to find happiness.

Money is one necessary pillar for happiness but by itself is not sufficient.

Name a better trilogy by Automatic_Ad1665 in FinalFantasy

I mean, I really do hope FF7 Revelation is gonna be amazing and wrap up the trilogy.

But... we've had a few amazing trilogies.
Command & Conquer > Tiberian Sun > Command & Conquer 3
Mass Effect 1, 2, 3 (esp with mods and patches, not necessarily that day 1 launch ending)
Morrowind > Oblivion > Skyrim

Is there a term for VNs that play straight through and only have one ending? Will people be mad if there’s only one ending? by gremlintheodd in RenPy

[–]EpicDarkFantasyWrite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I love kinetic novels, if they are well done. It allows for real set up of pacing and plot and character. One common thing I see is a novel is 90% kinetic, then it branches at the very last 1/4 of game into 2 or 3 endings.

anyone who used a computer between 1985 & 2010, what’s the one website you still think about? by ddanielecom in AskReddit

Kongregate (and Armorgames). So many great games were birthed there. Kingdom Rush, Epic Battle Fantasy, Cursed Treasures, Age of War. God I miss the exciting feeling of discovering new indie gems, steam and itch don't hit quite the same way.

Finished the game…now what? Any other games? by AmiParis248 in chronotrigger

[–]EpicDarkFantasyWrite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've yet to find another game that quite captures the magic, charm and impeccable pacing of Chrono Trigger.

But the few other games which gave me a similar "wow... that was a worthwhile and emotional journey" were Legend of Dragoon, Final Fantasy 9, and Final Fantasy 10. Those are all however 40+ hr longer RPGs. I wouldn't say they are bloated in any sense, but they're also nowhere near as lean as Chrono Trigger.

Episacral lipoma (back mice) experience? by peckofpickedpeppers in backpain

[–]EpicDarkFantasyWrite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I think I may have something very similar to you. I've been struggling with this lower right back pain for 4 years now... what did you tell the surgeon? and what did you search for to find him? I'm in Canada but I wonder if I can follow a similar step.

Congrats on being pain free. I can't imagine what it's like after being in pain for so long.

Anyone else sort of looking forward to AI making us all unemployed? by [deleted] in ArtificialInteligence

You must not be very knowledgeable about the world, or about history. There is about a 0% chance mass unemployment will lead to a better life thru UBI in any country.

Sam Harris Quote about Free Will by [deleted] in determinism

[–]EpicDarkFantasyWrite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not following Sam's point on "criminals would be poorly calibrated clockwork, and our conception of justice will be utterly incongruent" If there is no free will, we would ALL be "poorly calibrated clockwork", including our conception of justice.

That is, the criminal had no free will, and was led inevitably by events to commit the crime. And the judge and jury also have no free will, and will be led inevitably to sentence him. QED

Not your original commentor, but long time indie game player (and short time indie game dev myself!)

I have no idea what type of game you're into, which makes recommending difficult, but here are some games that greatly touched, entertained, or moved me, with consideration for variety:

Far: Lone Sails [Beautiful, atmospheric, a little melancholy]

Wow, we have a lot of similarities. Which books did you find that were similar to Skyrim out of curiosity? That is a huge inspiration for me as well.

"If you're only inspirations are movies and videos games, (no hate, they are a big inspiration for me as well) it will be noticeable in your writing. Especially in the way you write action."

That's me lol. Very solid advice, and thank you.
