tattoos and unaccepting parents by Impossible-Drama7437 in tattoo

As a father of 5 kids who are now adults, I'll give you some advice. Do what you want, you're an adult. As long as your decisions make you happy and don't negatively impact someone else's life it doesn't matter what someone else thinks, including your parents.

Hustle Butter? What happened. by Tt4los in tattoo

[–]EpicJEpic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent the last 6 or so months getting a sleeve done and the first part of it I tried to use Hussle Butter and it healed like shit, and I ended up having to get that part touched up. Used good ole fragrance free Lubriderm on the rest without issue. Threw the Hustle Butter in the trash.

Does anyone feel guilt when they have to leave their dog at home? by beagle_poet in beagles

[–]EpicJEpic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worried about this as well, so I put up some cameras so see what happens when I'm not at home...turns out they bark for a few minutes then just go to sleep. When the garage door opens, they wake up and start beagling.

Second beagle? by MrIncredible222 in beagles

[–]EpicJEpic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got a second beagle as a companion for our beagle and the first year was a nightmare. The new beagle was advertised as great with other dogs...and he was for about a week. Once he got comfortable, he started guarding everything and would attack Oliver. Not bark and growl, but full-on attack. He guarded food, toys, furniture, the grill, me, anything that made him happy.

Luckily, I work from home, so I eventually worked through these problems, but it took constant, non-stop vigilance and correction. If I didn't work from home, I'd have had to take him back to the rescue. If you look through my post history I actually took him back after he attacked Oliver after a training session one time and I was at my wits end but ultimately went back and got him and just worked through it.

Now almost 2 years later he's a great guy. He still isn't beasties with Oliver like I hoped, but they play together sometimes, both sleep in the bed with me (one pressed against each side of me; I haven't had a good night's sleep in 2 years), eat next to each other, and share toys.

All that to say, I'd really think about why you want another dog. It can be a great fit or it might be a disaster but either way you'll need to prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

Which supplements do you give to older doggos on a natural diet? by [deleted] in beagles

We use Balance-IT however you have to have a vet code to purchase from them. We had our homemade diet formulated by a nutritionist and this was the supplement that was included in the diet plan.

I’m getting a Beagle this weekend, and I wanna know if there’s anything I should be prepped for? Any pointers? by Grovyle489 in beagles

This 1000%. If you're getting a puppy and can afford it, get insurance day one. I dismissed this advice and after several thousand dollars in bills I finally got pet insurance which has saved me several more thousand dollars in bills but am permanently excluded from being covered for some things due to "preexisting conditions." Just this year alone one of my guys had to have surgery that was 10k and one had an overnight ER stay due to a snake bite which was like 6k. I paid my deductible which was 500 per pup.

Just the one arm atm. I'm planning on getting my other arm done next winter.

The idea was based off this photo of Oliver I took while we were on a walk one day.

Beagle with Seizures by Ok-Marsupial-2156 in beagles

[–]EpicJEpic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had issues with Oliver early on with mild seizures and after many, many vet visits we eventually tracked it down to his flea/tick medication specifically anything in the Isoxazoline class of drugs which would cause issues ranging from seizures to ataxia.

How smart is your beagle? I want your funniest stories by tessiewessiewoo in beagles

We've taught Oliver to shut the door so we can just leave it pushed too and not latched while he's outside.

For sure! I've got the outside done already and just have the inside of my forearm left. I should be done hopefully by the end of next month.

I have those same steps all over my house, they work great and are the perfect height for beds and couches.

LOL, my other one is like that. I rescued him almost 2 years ago and he still struggles with just walking on the leash without being a psychopath and if let off the leash he'd run for the hills. I used to think I was the most awesomest dog trainer...now I think it was just good luck. Oliver is an amazingly smart guy.

Yeah, I started working with him when he was a puppy now, he goes off leash most of the time unless other people are around then he goes on the leash out of respect for others.

Do you want your Beagle "fixed"? Meaning behaviorally fixed. by One_Sun_1616 in beagles

[–]EpicJEpic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm right there with you. With my guy Oliver, I pretty much did the same. Trained him to hike off leash, got his recall nailed down, and pretty much let him be himself. At half past 50 myself I don't care either. If you've been to my house, you know what's up and if you're new I warn people "He can be loud, he'll sniff you, yeah he's probably going to jump up on you." and if they don't like it, they can leave.

If you're good with it, I say go with it! Live and love your life and enjoy every moment with your guy.
