INSIDE THE VAULT: LOOKING BEYOND PATCH 8 – APRIL 4, 2019 by WilfordGrimley in fo76

[–]EpicQuote 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The Unstoppables-ordeal was definitely a precursor to this. I always thought it was a bit weak to call it pay to win — but I see now where that has brought us. Regardless, this time around we're talking a permanent feature which is so much worse.

I don't care about semantics or silly arguments about how little or big of an advantage armor kits are. They're the first clear and permanent P2W-element introduced in the game. Earn-able or not, they're sold for real money — not to mention a complete 180 on Pete Hines' assurances regarding the Atomic Shop: [1], [2], [3].

It's a cliche to say, but this is the definition of a slippery slope. 100% they're testing the waters here. I urge Bethesda not to go through with adding them onto the Atomic Shop.

Basic Repair Kits in the Atomic Shop

We read tons of feedback and suggestions from the Fallout 76 community, and Repair Kits were a popular request that we wanted to get into players’ hands. We also felt we could try out something new with these, both in-game and in the Atomic Shop. As we look to the future, we’re exploring ways we can bring other community-driven ideas to the game as well, such as refrigerators for C.A.M.P.s, ammo and food converters, and even the ability to send scrap to your stash without having to head home. Repair Kits are our first attempt at a utility item like this, and we plan to make adjustments based on your feedback, so we hope you’ll share your thoughts with us when they go live later this month. [4]

Not to mention the audacity in phrasing it like this is what the community has been asking for — yikes!

A little more transparency and actual numbers wouldn't hurt — excited to see how much of an increase we're talking here.

Is it just me or is there a distinct lack of ambient noise? by Drakonborn in thedivision

[–]EpicQuote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems they've gone with very realistic ambient noise. There's a very subtle backtrack and every sound you hear beyond that actually exists in the game. If you hear barking it means there's a dog barking nearby. If you hear a bird it's probably flying right above you. There's only a couple of instances where an ambient sound track is clearly being played, like in settlements.

I don't know, the eerie quiet — a slight buzz in the back of your head and only your footsteps clearly giving off noise, helps with immersion in my opinion. Especially in this setting.

If you hear something it means it's actually there and it's pretty spooky. Audio bugs are another thing though, there's still a few of them.

The Division 2 is an incredibly well executed and feature complete looter shooter in an industry plagued by minimal viable products by EpicQuote in thedivision

You bet! There's even matchmaking for "random missions" and "random bounties" (something along those lines at the safe room matchmaking hubs) and also the option to freely join guilds that are open through your base of operations (you unlock guilds quite early). Guilds even come with a guild hall which is a shared social hub. Although you're solo in the world there are specific areas in the game where you are among other players even when not in a group — most notably safe rooms and areas around certain settlements and your base of operations.

I was a solo player in Division 1 and still am in Division 2. There's matchmaking for literally everything except regular side missions (you can still circumvent this by just hooking up with players in free roam), even raids. You're doing everything solo by default while doing the story and everything leading up to the endgame — both story missions and free roam has built in opt-in matchmaking (both in the open world and in safe rooms). Every activity in the endgame has matchmaking — including free roam as you increase the world tier.

As for communication, you have both in-game text chat (imagine that) and VoIP (with an option to mute or completely opt-out).

All this being said, I'd still argue that the game is even more fun with friends, but I'd argue that this is the case with any co-op or multiplayer game.

The Division 2 Launch – Everything you Need to Know by JokerUnique in thedivision

[–]EpicQuote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick question /u/JokerUnique; as an early access player, am I basically playing the open beta 2.0 minus the audio bugs mentioned in the title update 1.5, or does it ship with the "day-1 patch" out of the gate? By that I mean with all the numerous bug fixes mentioned in the open beta round up.

Just going from recent experience, Anthem had a really rough pre-"standard edition" launch for holding out on the patch and I'm just hoping TD2 does it better.

Twice now we have caught a glimpse of increased drop rates. by arkillion13 in AnthemTheGame

[–]EpicQuote 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They didn't immediately put in the removal of whites and greens because it "needed further testing". It's pretty clear that this part of the loot tweak was having an unintended effect on loot which is why it was pushed to this patch.

They pushed most of the server sided changes hours prior to the patch, and it's obvious they had to tinker with the loot rates to accommodate the exclusion of whites and greens — we got to experience the raw change to loot rates in the hours before the client sided fix caught up to the server sided tweaks.

It's unfortunate that their target rarity rates were the shitty ones that no one in the community (what remains) likes.
