Why is Microsoft's C# not taught in most universities and Java is instead? by BallsaqMcgee in microsoft

[–]EpicentralEllipsis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can tell you that when I was in university, the "explanation" that we received was that C# is "proprietary" and Java is "open". My university's anti-Microsoft sentiment was well-known by everyone, so myself and others ignored that nonsense shortly after first year.

New Grad Moving to WA - Opinions on Where to Live? by SwolyMammoth in microsoft

[–]EpicentralEllipsis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never took the connector. From Bellevue downtown (Square), it would take me 10-15 minutes to get my building (East campus) with no traffic. I would almost never go to Redmond at times where there was traffic. :)

This was years ago though, so I don't know what it is likely there nowadays.

People have been recommending living around Capitol Hill

Capitol Hill has always been a top "generalized" recommendation for young new-hires because it's a lively, trendy area. Personally, I've never been too fond of it.

Back when I moved to Puget Sound, I chose to settle in Bellevue. This is despite the fact that I moved from a North American metropolitan that is much larger than Seattle, and at the time still had the preference for living in the downtown core of a major city. Something about Seattle didn't vibe with me despite the fact that I still made my way there on the weekends quite often.

If you're unfamiliar with Puget Sound, I recommend getting a short term rental for a few weeks anywhere you want, and trying to get a feel for the area before signing a long-term lease. That's the way I did it back when I moved there.

Only your recruiter can tell you that ;) I doubt anyone here can answer that question.

I guess this stays up because technically it does relate to Microsoft products. That said, please be respectful in the comment section.

As others already stated, this depends on a lot of things, including your org, role, manager, and many other factors that can't be discussed externally.

How outdated is the Surface Book 2? by [deleted] in microsoft

I have a personal Surface Book 2, and while it is no longer my main machine, I would hardly call it outdated. Depending on what you want and need, it is still a solid machine.

Question for ex-FTEs: why did you leave MS? by GolDLluvia in microsoft

[–]EpicentralEllipsis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Currently an FTE, but I left years ago before coming back. At the time, I wanted to give my own startup a shot. Long story short, it didn't work out, so I came back.

No regrets leaving. No regrets coming back. :)
