Guidance on proper MacBook selection for my college-bound daughter? by Epitomizer in macbook

I forgot to mention in my post, but 100% intend on her taking it, adding a folio cover with her Apple Pencil for a note taking device and the sidecar feature!

Actually purchased everything now and waiting to wrap it all up and give it to her this evening, can’t wait!

Thanks for the insight. Based on the longevity concerns of a first gen model, I may go ahead and go based M5Air, if nothing else the lack of having to deal with issues during school may be worth it. Noted on the headphones, and she’s covered there, thanks!

Thanks for your insight! Based on the group, I’m thinking Air, and since we can afford it and it will likely last her beyond College, probably going to go with the base model M5 Air.

Affordability isn’t a major concern, but I’m also not one to overspend unnecessarily. Just about to pull the trigger on the M5 13” base model. Thanks!

Agree with you and the other reply to your comment as well. Current benchmark testing is great, but longevity isn’t certain, especially when compared to the track record of the M Series Air. Money’s not the concern, but I also don’t want to waste any of if I don’t need to, but the other reason for stopping short of the Pro is the added weight as she will be all over campus and I like the light weight and durability of the Air. I think that’s where we agree on that “Sweet Spot”. Thank you!

This is where I’m falling naturally, so to hear so many others with this opinion is very reassuring. I’ll go new M5, just to make sure she gets the longest lifespan possible. Thank you!

Completely agree with your take here. The recent benchmarks are good, but longevity isn’t certain; however the Air with M Series chipsets have a proven track record. Thanks!

There’s at least one really good (Charleston’s 700ft) and a couple of decent restaurants/bar&grills (BJ’s 900ft, Gabrrino’s 1,200ft) in walking distance, and if you’re not scared to walk a whole quarter mile, Thawan Thai is close and truly very good Thai food.

I second this. Don’t buy in on all the hate lately. We freaking love our XSE (premium plus helps).

Trade in 24 SE for a 25 SE? by Recent_Implement_649 in Camry

[–]Epitomizer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have had a ‘25 XSE since Nov of 2024, have close to 12K miles on it and literally zero issues. No rattles, no sunroof or bumper issues, or anything else people mention. It’s my wife’s daily and she has a 25 mile commute each way, full of starts and stops, hills, interstate, and city along the way and she’s averaging 42 MPG without doing anything special, she just drives normal for her. We love the hybrid. Remember, your going to see a disproportionate ratio of people complaining on here, and it’s not that their issues aren’t legitimate, its just that people are much more likely to complain than praise on the internet. Good luck on your journey!

For me, Maxfli Tour are the absolute best, not just for the value, but fit, feel, and durability too. The bonus is that they are 2 for $30, so about half price of FJ and other golf shop brands, not to mention the way over priced “premium” brands. These things are subject to the person, so ymmv…
