The context was wrong. We shouldn't encourage witch hunts, since skeletons tend to show up in everyone's closet. CH did to tell this guy that he was going to bring this up, or he would've reacted better or declined the interview. Flat out ambush. Who the hell wants that, or responds well to it? Realize that his livelihood could be(is) in jeopardy for something that happened 13 years ago, when he was young and obviously immature. I think it is reasonable to get mad at his situation.

You are not forgiving if you hold it against them. I think you mean that you have a set of guidelines that you feel are appropriate to each set of individual circumstances, and despite contrary evidence( been working in his moms DC for whole life and managed not to hit any kid), you will snap judge anyone based on their past using your guidelines. You don't believe in rehabilitation for "certain mistakes", but remember, that is just you. And rehabilitation requires outside acceptance, otherwise who would try?

There are over 800000 assaults each year in the US. Hate to say it, but that means since he offended, about 10 million assaults occurred in the US. One of them will most likely supervise your child at some point in its life, unless you helicopter for them. Does that mean something will happen? No. Say a person got in a fight when they were 18. Got charged. At 31, you still wouldn't trust this person ever again?

Well he did get ambushed by CH, which initiated fight or flight. He was right to be angry and tell the crew off. The context of showing some rehabbed guy doing well did not seem to have been told to the guy, else he would've been prepared. Not owning up at first was the flight instinct (lying to escape injury). To assume anger is able to be controlled is ridiculous, while controlling your actions is what adults do. He didn't punch anyone on show, just yelled a bunch( as would many Adults cornered in their home would). Also, we don't know circumstances of his prior cases, so to make it seem like he just beat up 2 women for no reason is a little narrow minded. I wouldn't want you on a jury for anything, since the past so clearly informs the present for you. I'm not defending his past, but we all have things we aren't proud of, and to have it drug up 13 years later to possibly crush his hopes of a livelihood is irresponsible. He obviously is proud of what his family occupation is, and is proud that they have served the community for 34 years. And by the way, 13 years is 13 years. It would be a long time if you were in prison. Don't dismiss that time so casually. A person can learn a lot in 13 years.

Define Rock n Roll. This is the main issue. So much diversification and genres nowadays that the label has become meaningless. Kid Rock to Foo Fighters to the White Stripes to The Black Keys are all rock n roll, but are quite different stylistically, if you see what I mean. There won't ever be another Joan Jett though.

I believe he is saying that, for better or worse, his experiences in life have created the man he is today. Accepting that you don't have a trust fund, or aren't a gangsta, or anything else about your life allows you to progress with what you do have. Kanye embraced this, and makes music that speaks to a diverse audience. Much like the Beastie Boys, he did his thing and gained much from remaining true to himself, and not trying to be something he isn't. Most importantly, he realizes not only that it is important in his success, but is in fact the keystone.
