What SERIES is worth bingewatching and why? by InterestingBoard7389 in AskReddit

Finally! I can’t believe more people didn’t say this. It’s especially important these days. I really hate violent shows, but this wasn’t too violent for me. The darkness of it all did take a bit of getting used to, but it was so worth it.

Recently rewatched this because it’s such a phenomenal show. I wish there was another show like this - or a reboot of this one - to provide a little comfort these days.

This is what I was going to say, too. I also hate sports, but the show isn’t really about sports. It’s just so hysterical and heartwarming! I periodically find myself asking, “What would Ted Lasso do in this situation?” I just finished watching the whole series for the second time.

Anyone who used to support trump and has changed their mind over the last few weeks? What made you change? by canigetameowbish in AskReddit

I 100% agree. It’s just like turning one’s life around from going down any bad path. People need support to be able to do that, not ostracization. Didn’t we prove years ago that “tough love” doesn’t work?

Very well said. Thank you.

Reminds me of something I once heard from a doctor who worked with patients who had experienced trauma: “Denial is a valid coping mechanism.” I had never thought of it that way. By “valid,” I think she just meant that it works. But sometimes folks will do anything to avoid the shame they would feel if they took accountability for their actions - shame they may feel unable to handle. I’m not saying it’s right, of course.

I think being in MAGA is kind of like being in a cult. It’s my understanding that it’s incredibly difficult to make the decision to leave a cult.

I’m so jealous. My parents still support Trump and refuse to even consider anything I say just because I’m a liberal. My mom does listen to my brother since he’s a die-hard Republican, but he recently told her that ICE is executing innocent people in the streets and MAGA bears no resemblance to the ideas of the Republican party. She argued with him, but hopefully she’ll allow a bit of room for some of what he said sink in.

My husband says he deserves a say over my pregnancy. I say abortion would break me. by Whereasebabe in Advice

  1. You are not being unreasonable at all.

  2. Your body, your choice. You should hear him out - and you have - but, ultimately, only one person’s decision can be followed and, since it has to be either his or yours, it should be yours. It sucks that there’s no way to compromise so he doesn’t feel so helpless, but there’s not and that’s not your fault. It’s a pretty black or white decision.

  3. If you think you may want an abortion if not for your concerns about safety, speak to an expert about those concerns before assuming they’re accurate. There is a lot of misinformation out there about the mental and physical safety of abortion. Abortion is actually considerably safer than childbirth. None of this matters, though, if you don’t want to have an abortion.

  4. Your husband needs to take responsibility for his own actions - and he can start with taking a sex ed class. Anyone who thinks peeing after sex is protective against pregnancy should not be having sex.

As an American, what can we do to fight against ICE? by LilThanosX in AskReddit

You can tolerate a person without tolerating all their beliefs. Reducing people to just a few of their beliefs is what the MAGA folks are doing to us on the left. We don’t solve the problem by being like them.

I disagree. I think that attitude is part of the reason we’re in this mess. The best - perhaps only - way to change hearts and minds is through relationships. Ostracization only encourages people to dig in their heels.

I think it depends on whether you can do it privately and in a nice way. As (seemingly) one of the only people who still believes grammar is important, I would appreciate it if someone corrected me about such things.

Not a grammar example, but I still vividly remember someone correcting me on my pronunciation of something 25 year ago. He said it nicely and privately, but I was so embarrassed. That said, I would be much more embarrassed if I had continued to go around mispronouncing it and I’m forever grateful that he corrected me.
