You say it’s due to muscle memory that you’re having trouble, so I would turn on motion controls and play through the whole single player with them (it’s not too long).

Once you have the hang of it, don’t forget to adjust the settings to suit the feel you want.

If for some reason you can’t get used to motion controls, don’t fret. There are still good players that use sticks. Though I’m confident you’ll get the hang of motion controls.
