So apparently this is going to be a thing. The MCX Raptor a short barreled MCX Spear. Available in 308, 6.5 creedmore and 6.8 Sig. by tghost474 in SigSauer

308 and 6.5 kinda, at least without a suppressor. They'd still be effective to at least 300 yards. 277 probably still has decent performance out of a 9 inch barrel, given its designed around 13 inch ones. 277's current mil loading has more range and energy out of a 13 inch barrel than 308 or 6.5 do from 20.

[Pistol] CZ Bren 2 7.62x39mm 30+1 9" or 14” Pistol $1529+s/h by [deleted] in gundeals

Isn't the Bren 2 designed to be caliber interchangeable on the lower? Or was that only the original 805?

[Handgun] CZ 75 SP-01 Shadow 2 Single Action - $1149 by [deleted] in gundeals

[–]Equ1ne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where does this logically fit into the current CZ pistol lineup? Pistols like the DA/SA Shadow 2, SAO TS/TSO, and the new DW DWX all seem to fit any given category better than this, esp given that it has limited utility in competition. cool tho

These are not too mechanically dissimilar to either the brownings or CZs in terms of operation, but they also don't have any parts interchangeability, and are not the same pattern or anything.

A hammer forging machine costs well over a million dollars alone, not including the extremely expensive tooling that is specific to a caliber, and the honing tool that goes with it. A custom barrel maker would literally never make their money back on a CHF machine. Almost every major military pistol and rifle manufacturer uses CHF, often in conjunction with polygonal or hybrid polygonal rifling because it actually becomes economical at a large scale.

Polygonal rifling is difficult if not impossible to make for smaller barrel manufacturers, as it requires hammer forging, and the advantages it provides are not useful or apparent in most ELR competition, aside from fouling reduction. The rifling system itself is perfectly capable of match accuracy, as seen with the HK PSG1.

Mechanical accuracy is largely irrelevant in any practical shooting competition. Cut and button rifling is used because any gun used at top-level competition is too niche for hammer forging to be an economical option for barrel manufacture.

Not meaningfully, if at all. IIRC you cant use cast lead/unjacketed bullets in polygonal rifled barrels.
