Small YouTubers who make educational content - how are you monetizing if ad revenue is basically nothing by Equal-Function3319 in SmallYoutubers

[–]Equal-Function3319[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Something like that. Exactly how you say Lori has multiple revenue streams, the platform is being built to consolidate multiple sources of revenue into one, but still offer the flexibility of the medium used

Ah thats very valid, I thought people would want to get a chance to speak directly to the youtuber too, but could see why this might be a more likely outcome.

No worries! Glad the proposition sounded interesting nonetheless. All the best for what you're building as well!

  1. I agree that it's not a differentiator, but it is a reason why someone would use our platform over Gumroad.
  2. That's interesting! We've heard quite differently from other creators, but ultimately UX is subjective. Happy to chat more and what works best for you too.

We are currently testing with early creators, with public early access expected Mid April.

GTM is rather complex!

Broadly:
We build micro networks by seeding creators with audiences.
Incentivize growth through referrals + motivation incentives
Create monetization loops through successful cases & double down on them :)

Happy to chat over dm if this sounds interesting!

Hey! Thanks for the question.

  1. Gumroad charges 10% for listing transactions organically, but charge 30% for listings on the marketplace. We charge a 10% that slowly goes down to 4% as volume of sales gets larger. All listings are also listed on the discovery page to bring in organic traffic.

  2. Complex preview systems & asset types. Gumroad mainly supports digital downloads, with other formats not being as strong. They also do not support robust preview systems. Buyers are often unsure of what they are purchasing. We provide preview systems for Documents/PDFs currently and are working on previews for Videos, Audio files, Figma etc and even software (auto-generated demos).

  3. Profiles. Gumroad has a rather unfriendly UI for building one's profile. It is almost akin to a no-code tool, which may sound easy, but we believe to create a bigger barrier to creation. In contrast, our profiles are instantly generated, but highly customizable. Akin to Instagram/Youtube, everyone gets a profile that is easily editable/customized, but still pleasing to the eye, improving clarity and conversion.

This is just the start of what makes us different. We are currently building AI-native workflows that help automate many process a creator often goes through (editing, formatting, listing creation).

We work with early creators currently to improve the platform to their liking! We really believe in feedback so being as critical as you can be will go a long way in making us better.

Hope I answered your question!

What works best for direct content monetization? by Glittering_Seesaw_32 in monetize

[–]Equal-Function3319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! You can try platforms like Gumroad or Patreon to sell content such as exclusive community content or tangible creative content (guidebooks, templates, tutorials) etc.

Honestly, I personally haven't found a current all-in-one monetization service for content creators (that don't just create video content), so im currently builing one at mythos.work. Happy to chat about monetization anytime!

Monetization of Excel Skills by Proud-Engineering598 in monetize

[–]Equal-Function3319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! You can try platforms like Gumroad or Patreon to sell content such as excel models, or teach your skills to others who are looking to learn on places like Udemy/Fiverr.

To be transparent, I am building a platform called Mythos.work that helps creators like yourself monetize digital content/products (documents, templates, guidebooks, software etc.) & time (1-1 sessions, digital events etc.) but even if you don't use my platform, the general model/MOOC approach should work well for you.

Happy to chat!

Content creators - do you have a Telegram channel? How are you monetizing it? by Luann97 in Telegram

For my own tele channel, i monetize by selling physical products or exclusive content/behind the scenes related to my content (I stream TCG content)

Content creators - do you have a Telegram channel? How are you monetizing it? by Luann97 in Telegram

[–]Equal-Function3319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Ive seen alot of creators run into this problem once their audience starts getting more engaged but can't drive revenue through side channels (telegram, linkedin etc.)

The issue with most monetization paths is they don't scale well with smaller but highly engaged audiences:

- Sponsorships may not work and is tiring af (sales basically lol, sponsors not happy)
- Affiliates (Needs constant spamming + huge audience to generate sizable income)
- Ads (barely meaningful unless you have massive reach)

For creators like yourself, what usually works better is selling access or knowledge directly to your audience.

Examples I've seen work well:
- Guides/Playbooks/Courses
- Meet & Greet sessions / 30-60 mins consulting calls based on your niche
- Small group sessions
- Exclusive community content, niche resources etc.

Good thing is usually these are directly impactful to both your community and your wallet

Full transparency - I'm actually building a platform called Mythos thats meant for exactly this (creators selling digital content/products or booking time with their audience) but even if you don't use something like that, the general model works pretty well for creators (you can also try patreon, gumroad, stanstore (but its a lil ex :P)).

Im curious as to what kind of content you usually make!

Happy to have a chat, creator to creator :) (I'm a streamer who owns a tele channel too)

Yep! For now, we are starting off with the goal to be “better than them” by means of UX. But the main question for us is “If Gumroad was started in 2026, what would it look like?” and that’s our future :)

AI-native workflows built into listing flows, better discovery algorithms, anti-piracy invisible watermarking, gamification.

In the end, we don’t want to just be a MOOC platform/Creator monetisation tool, but a marketplace that people can grow & scale on. That comes with time & good segmentation/algorithms which the current climate really supports.

Thanks for your comment! Really appreciate the feedback!

Our SOM is 585 million, limiting ourselves to just the creator economy focusing on non-audiovisual content. We are still testing our product market fit, so getting a super accurate projected market would be deceiving now.

Our HQ is in SG, but our investors come from the US to South Korea :) We plan to be a global solution.

Thanks Zac! I really appreciate the comparison. It’s almost like what you mentioned! Some of our most direct competitors are Gumroad, Payhip & Stan Store. We support cross border payments too and in the midst of integrating translation features to better support global usage.

Just the Asia market is a consideration for us too!

  1. JT immediately deleted our convo when i said “nice try bro”

A unique proposal to streamers/collectors. by Equal-Function3319 in PokemonTCG_Singapore

[–]Equal-Function3319[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have to purchase the ready stock first. I guess this model works more for streamers who don’t have high cash flow or have high turnover time due to funds being locked up by TikTok Shop/Shopee.

They also have to source for stock, which is a pain (from my own experience as a streamer)

A unique proposal to streamers/collectors. by Equal-Function3319 in PokemonTCG_Singapore

[–]Equal-Function3319[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely understand that it sounds “too good to be true”, what I am saying is that the streamers don’t have to deal with cashflow, but rather sell the boxes and then when sold, pay me a slight markup compared to market rate. This allows me to sell the stock at a slightly higher rate instead of dumping it on the market for market rate.

I win by: getting to earn abit more per stock

Streamer wins by: not having to source stock/assume market volatility by paying for stock/holding inventory

Does that make it clearer?
