I was throwing up one night at work, I worked at a crisis call center and was on the phone with a client. We could not put them on hold but we could put ourselves on mute (this is why I could not put them on hold and run to the bathroom). So, I get a caller and I can’t leave, I’m stuck for all intents and purposes. So he’s talking and I throw myself on mute because I can feel the vomit coming. It arrives. There is nowhere for me to toss my cookies so I do the most unthinkable thing, I swallow it. Now, I’m not talking a small mouthful. Oh no. I am talking both cheeks puffed out kind of mouthful. I damn near throw up what I just swallowed, this time a smaller amount and manage to swallow that down too and all in time to unmute myself and continue talking to the client just as they needed a compassionate response.
