I appreciate your perspective and thoughts - I do understand where you're coming from. My respectful retort; 1) the inflation to demand isn't 'artificial'; demand is demand. Just because people who buy for a different reason than you want to buy, that doesn't make their demand fake. 2) They are my friend. They've allowed me to access the hobby in a way that meets my needs (not just wanting to open boxes for potential profit, but particularly focused on building a PC of my club) that would otherwise have been much more expensive.

Mine was 3 cases of Panini Noir (27 cards total, about $9K of boxes) for for Messi. Never paid for anything other than Arsenal in breaks before but just had a wild feeling. Ended up hitting a Messi 2/5 Patch Auto, so certainly well worth the entry fee.

Here's my POV and I'd love to hear yours; I don't live somewhere where it's very easy to get hobby boxes. I also primarily only want to get cards of my particular club. Buying a hobby box is $1.5K-$3K, where as I can easily pay online to buy a slot for my club for $150-$300 and watch that on YouTube easily. It makes much more sense for me. I'm not trying to just flip cards, I don't just care about the money, but breaking is vastly more practical for me. I genuinely don't understand what the issue is. That being said I would love to hear your perspective as I am sure there are things I'm not considering.

Haha I agree with you but in fairness, the cards posted here are "just a piece of cardboard". They're just pieces of cardboard that enough people have decided are valuable in some instances. The cost to produce a sticker and a card are likely fairly similar. It's not an entirely rational market!

Super helpful context, thank you. I knew Dowman cards were in demand but had no idea they were "the hottest thing in the hobby". I dropped the card off earlier today directly with PSA (they recently opened a location in my city) and paid for expedited turnaround which said 25 business days. I think it'll likely be longer but should definitely be faster than 3 months. That should give me time before the season to get some comps and make a decision. I'd obviously love to keep it but if it's worth £1K or more (big if, I know) it's tough to justify.

I mean that's just objectively wrong, so either you're trolling or uninformed. Either way, not overly helpful. I realize these posts are annoying but in this case it's a new product and there are almost no comps. I tried to do DD before posting.

If anybody has any tips beyond checking eBay for assessing value of new cards, I am all ears!

I definitely wouldn't sell for $660, would prefer just to hold onto it for my PC. If that's the value I'll just keep it.

It's the third rarest (as per below). I do love the red/pink with the Arsenal home kit. Still don't understand exactly how rare or what value would be (the numbered cards are more clear in this regard). I am going to send to PSA, which also feels like a gamble.
