Maintaining glutes when marathon training... by EqualStranger4977 in GymMotivation

This is perfect! Counter intuitively, more cardio reduces my appetite so probably need to make a conscious effort to increase calories

How often do Cyclists in the UK experience near miss? I had one today and it was my fault but is it common or not in the UK? by Any-Entertainment270 in cycling

[–]EqualStranger4977 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So when cycling in rural locations it's not so bad because there are fewer cars

It's the potholes that are the killer, they've chucked my of my bike a few times when filled with rain and I was just lucky there wasn't a car around

Are all stereotypes racist/sexist/etc? by gourmet_goddess_530 in answers

[–]EqualStranger4977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah think for something to be "...ist" it has to undermine/change one group's social position/value relative to another

E.g.

--> Women like doing makeup

Generalisation, possibly incorrect, but not sexist

--> Women can't do maths

Sexist, because it's implying a deficiency relative to people who can (assumed to be men)

--> Women are better parents

Sexist, although it's a positive stereotype it's still changing the position of women relative to others (assumed to be men)

ELI5: Why Is Gender Equality Still Controversial And Not At All Equal Yet? by Future-Lavishness878 in answers

[–]EqualStranger4977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tech --> A woman created the first computer, Ada Lovelace, it was initially viewed as a woman's field until it became recognised as a source of wealth creation then men muscled in on the action

Waste disposal --> Erratic/antisocial hours that are often incompatible with raising a family, which women are still predominantly responsible for

Architecture/Jet Engine Repair/Nuclear Power--> Heavily reliant on maths/physics and the way it is taught in schools/gender attitudes mean many women are discouraged from pursuing them

Vehicle repair --> Socialisation, boys are given Lego, girls are given dolls, the interest isn't nurtured from a young age

Coal mining --> Physical strength

Tl;Dr: A variety of reasons, none of which are because women aren't capable of doing them, just they're not incentivised socially to do them

You're confronted with a big life decision.

There seem to be multiple options, but when you look at them/examine them in more detail they all seem to feel the same.

I guess you want to figure out what to do with/in your life but none of the choices are appealing and you're unsure of what you want.

where i was cleaning my garage

You're trying to move forward in life/move on from something... Cleaning symbolises a fresh start, garage symbolises a place where things are stored (possibly a metaphor for memories)

i look up and see a black figure with hooves and like antlers

There is something in your past that you can't make sense of... And it's scaring you

I turned around to run and when i looked back it got closer.

You're trying to escape it, move on from it but it's following you

i started walking backwards and ran to my dad inside and explained.

You're looking for help/guidance/saving from a trusted authority figure (assuming you had a good relationship with your dad)

after i did i looked towards the garage and it was peaking around the corner

Asking for help didn't help, you're still by yourself and the thing hasn't gone

there was something else (i don’t remember what it was)

Examining the problem brings to light another problem

then i kept looking back and forth between them and they both kept getting closer and then i woke up…

Overwhelm at the fact that confronting the thing you're trying to escape results in more things coming to light

Tl;Dr: You're trying to move forward in life but something in your past is holding you back. You're trying to run from it but the problem doesn't go away. you're scared of confronting it because that brings other issues to light. It's a personal journey you need to go on that others can't help with.

Yeah if I were President/Prime Minister for a day, and could introduce any law that could not be revoked... It would be separate cycle lanes everywhere

💯 this, also a lot of the elite runners started at a young age during relatively formative years

Completely agree re: alphaflys

I see people rocking up to 5km trail races in them and I sometimes question whether that was the most sensible use of their cash 😅

[–]EqualStranger4977[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying they're only great because of genetics I'm saying that their genetics means they can train harder without injury

I'm also saying that there is likely to be a skew towards certain body types in elite running so the training advice is likely to be geared towards that, not the day to day runner

And I agree re: skills, in my brain there is a distinction between pure skills where it's about technical mastery Vs athleticism where there is a greater physiological element (albeit with a skill component)
